Unzipping and Unraring Problem

Well, just re-build your pc if you can. I honestly do not know the fix for this problem yet although I have seen it on few machines. Maybe if it happened on my machine, I could find a solution for it.

thats perfectly well said... i tried to get things going by opening a port from his router configuration, but no use...
probably if this happens to me, then i can diagnose the problem better...

I doubt reformatting everything would help. This seems like a hardware issue. A couple of things you can try are try connecting through another mode (dialup, maybe) and see if files get corrupted. That way you can diagnose the problem and identify if it's a software problem or a hardware problem. I have a sneaky feeling it's something to do with your router, but if you could get some more diagnostic information such as using a different means of connection (maybe even a different router, or wireless or something) that would be great.

Good luck. :)

I just saw your other thread--the one where you are not able to connect to LAN. How were you able to get around this? Possibly there's a connection between that problem and its subsequent solution and this problem?

Thanks for the help mate, I don't think there is a link because all that was wrong is that I didn't have the driver installed, so it can't be that. I will try to get another router to borrow for a couple of days with some lame excuse to out IP, and see if that makes a difference, would be good to know that I can cancel that problem off the list, or hopefully in-fact find that it is the problem. Thanks again Sohum!

No problem. I wouldn't write off that link so quickly. In fact, an incorrect driver seems like the perfect reason why data transfers are getting truncated. :D

Yes, but I only had to reinstall this driver after I formatted my computer. I still had this problem before I formatted my computer ;)

Sorry to bring this problem up again, but I found out, interestingly, that torrent downloads are not corrupt, and infact, even when they are .zips they are fine. Thanks for all your help so far, but perhaps this can shed light on the problem, and the solution may become more obvious now.

I wonder if the tcp/Ip stack is messed up. Ok, click Start - Run and type "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" without the inverted commas.

Thanks a lot for the help, but that did not work either. Any other thoughts?

Sorry to keep bumping this thread, but I think the way that I can download torrents without them being corrupt could be the key to my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll google your issue to see if I can make something out, give me couple of days though.

Thank you very much, take as much time as you want ;). As you would probably guess, it is an infuriating problem, which is why don't worry about the time it takes to get the solution, unless you're talking in years :p

Just a question, is they a way of downloading normal files through a torrent-like program or style. Is downloading through ftp similar?

Hmm... they are different protocols (HTTP and FTP) but I'm not sure how torrents technically work. It's strange that you can download torrents. Are files from FTP getting corrupted? If they aren't, maybe there's a problem with the way the HTTP protocol is being handled--though I'm not sure what level that is at.

Were you able to isolate the problem to any one device? For example your computer or your router? You could do this by changing one or the other--for example connecting your router to a laptop or connecting another router to your computer. If it isn't that hard to acquire one, that's the first step I would take in diagnosing the problem, since I'm still not sure what the offending device is.

Thanks a lot for the help. I will try to get my ISP to lend me a router and see if that is the problem. If it is not then it must be my comp. I have actually never tried downloading from ftp, how would I go about it? My gut instinct is that the problem lies in the way the HTTP is being handled, it could therefore be the router.

Thanks for the help ;)
