Depends how you go about it. If you are adding a bowler for a batter then obviously it weakens the batting. But if you use the current NZ lineup, if McCullum is staying at 6 then Vettori can move to 5, Fulton 7 and Elliott 8 which on paper doesn't weaken the batting.

Yeah I guess you could move Vettori up if you play batsmen under him. But how many batsmen are going to succeed batting at seven and eight. Vettori's got a game that works well batting as low as he does.

The problem with keeping Vettori at 8, is him being stranded due to the tail collapsing on him. If he is your best batter then you would want him higher in the order to get the most out of him. Or get batsmen that will do the job above him.

Kallis, any day!

he can open, he can be a good 1 down bat, he can attack, also he can be the wall. He can bowl and get you wickets. he is your "go to" guy.

Kallis is the pure meaning of ALL ROUNDER. Vettori is a spinner who can bat a bit. those stat may show that Vettori is batter batsman then Kallis, but we all know that Kallis is better. if i needed 50 runs from 6-7 overs, i would go to Kallis not Vettori..

seriously since when do you guys take Vettori as a real batsman. he is soo overrated

Don't know about Vettori being overrated but he definitly is not as versatile a batsman as Kallis. Vettori's cross bat shots would ensure a brief innings if he was to open or come in the top 3.

Well he came out yesterday and played the new ball almost straight away, Pakistan had their tails up, and he played perfectly.

He plays to his strengths and it's bloody effective.

Why are you bringing up scenarios like 50 runs of 6-7 overs? And how is he overrated, he's averaged 60 this year and 43 over the last five years.

Howsie added 0 Minutes and 41 Seconds later...

Batting at eight he does face the new ball quite a lot.

He did open in ODIs quite a bit and he was alright, certainly not a complete failure. He doesn't have the best technique but he works with what hes got.

Vettori > Tendulkar

Seriously, the comments that he's overrated are absurd. He's still very much underrated. He's so gutsy too.

Vettori is pretty much a 1 man team.

I seem to always disagree with you, and that continues today...

Vettori is a pure all-rounder, and along with Kallis they are probably two of the only pure ones in the test game. I was just looking at the ratings and for test all-rounders, Johnson, Broad and H. Singh were all in the top 10.

Vettori is extremely under rated, he is a real batsmen and has a career average of over 30, considering that he average 15 for his first 5-6 years in the INT game, and now since 2004 he has averaged about 45...

He opens the batting for his domestic team, the rare times he plays for them. Yeah, he also often faces the new ball like he did yesterday as he comes in after about 70 - 90 over's.

LOL i stopped reading your post after i read "Vettori is a pure all-rounder". ...

McLOVIN you have little to NO knowledge about NZ cricket...

Don't criticize a player that in a few years time could go down as one of the greatest all-rounder's ever...

loking at that statistics in 2008 probably vittori....but considering over roll carries...its simply Kallis:D
