Pakistan has appointed wicket-keeper Rashid Latif as captain and former skipper Javed Miandad has been brought back for his third stint as coach. Skipper Waqar Younis was sacked on Wednesday following Pakistan’s disappointing World Cup campaign in South
Africa.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Yousuf Youhana as the vice-captain for the forthcoming Sharjah tournament next month. Youhana replaces Inzamam-ul-Haq, who had quit from the post after the World Cup debacle. The Board also appointed former
Test player Haroon Rasheed as team manager and named former captain Aamir Sohail as the new chief selector in place of Wasim Bari, who had wanted to be relieved
from his post.

The 34-year old Latif, who returns as captain after more than four years, will lead a new Pakistan team in the Sharjah Cup against Sri Lanka and South Africa.Previously, in 1998, he had led Pakistan to Bangladesh, South Africa and Zimbabwe before being
removed by the Board.

Latif, who has played 34 Tests and 149 one-dayers since his debut in 1992, announced his retirement from Test cricket in November last year and was expected to
retire from one-day cricket after the World Cup. But now he has decided to put off his retirement plans.

The 45 year old Miandad, who is till now Pakistan's highest Test run-maker, was coach of he team in 1998 and 2000 before being forced to step down because of differences with senior players over sharing of the prize money.

In another major move, the PCB has lifted the ban imposed on pace man Ata-ur-Rehman in connection with match-fixing allegation after an official inquiry cleared him of the charges. The decision to lift strictures imposed on Wasim Akram would also be sort out after the final of the World Cup.
