Well, its been a hectic first week here at Upton Park and its taken me a while to settle in. When I got here, I had a look at the side and I thought to myself 'we have a good side here'. After a thorough look at the First Team I turned my attention to the Reserves, and noticed there were a few players who warranted a place in the first team, so thats exactly what I did. I moved Carlton Cole, Hayden Mullins, George Collins and Julien Faubert into the first team.

After this I recieved a call from my assistant Tony Carr, who informed me of the unavailable players. No less than 4 players were out to injury and they were Calum Davenport who was suffering from a hernia, but he is expected back in a couple of days, winger Julien Faubert whos injury was slightly more serious as he was out with a damaged achilles tendon and won't be available for at least 2 months. Swedish midfielder Freddy Ljungberg was out for a couple of weeks with a thigh strain, and finally former Chelsea and Newcastle midfielder Scott Parker was out for a couple of months with torn knee ligaments, so some noteable injuries at the very start of my reign.

As far as the Transfer Front goes, I haven't really had the chance to make any signifficant movements however I am closing in on my first signing. Liverpool winger Harry Kewell has been transfer listed by manager Rafa Benitez, and was on the Transfer List for just £2.8mil, I have paid the asking price, so I hope that Kewell will become a Hammers player in the next week or so. However, don't expect too much activity from me in this window, as the squad I have can take me far up the table in my opinion, and with the backing of Chairman, Eggert 'Egg Head' Magnusson, we were in the right stead to go far.

Signs are good at Upton Park, and my next weekly update will obviously be next week, on the 21st, however you will be hearing from me before then, as I have 6 friendlies to play out. Here is my friendly fixture list;

Great first update there Craig. Mullins and Cole were in the reserves? Ha. Harry Kewell your only target at the moment? Not the winger I thought you were going for.

Some big friendlies there, good luck mate.

Yeah they were on the Reserves, and as Ashton and Bellamy are both quite injury prone, West Ham have great backup in Bobby Zamora, Carlton Cole and Henri Camara.
Harry Kewell would be a fantastic signing, especially at a cut price like that.

Good luck with yours too Jaz.

Wow. How I love to have finally got into football. Yes it may not of been exactly playing but managerial is still something to be proud of. Especially at a club like the Hammers; such a prestigious club. Well in the first week I had a look at the First Team, the Reserves and our infamous Youth Team and I must say, with our present and future players, we can do well. A few players got promoted from the Reserves to the First Team such as Hayden Mullins and Carlton, to help what seems an already decent squad. I would love to sell a few of the oldies though and bring in a few young un's as I feel that we have a little bit too much experience. Anyway it will be a great experience and one I will look forward to and grasp with both my hands. My chance.

Injury ridden team was given to me. After shuffling the Reserves and the First Team, I found out we had 6 injuries! What a great welcoming present for me(!). The biggest injuries were the more serious ones with right sided player Julien Faubert accidentally damaging his Achilles tendon. 4-5 months he will be unable to play. Scott Parker and Nigel Quashie both did in their ligaments, and would be out for about 2 months. This just gets better and better... Then I found out that Calum Davenport would be out for a month. That's all the big injuries out of the way already anyway. Robert Green and Freddy Ljungberg both out for just under a week and would not really miss anything apart from training. Luckily enough. Also, a new player on loan from Rangers got a Facial Injury on the trip down and even he would be out for around 1-2 weeks! Obviously we have no suspensions going into the season as there have been no games but I'm sure over the course of the season there will be a few bans. I have a small feeling lets say.

£7.5m is our transfer budget for the season, as I said that we could get a top half finish. Already in my first week I have payed £1.3m to other clubs for players, Bringing 3 players in on permanent basis. The first two arrived on the same day, Wednesday and settled in well in their first training session. Celestine Babayaro was the first to arrive at our training ground for a total fee of £1m from Newcastle, half of what his actual value is. He will surely provide great assistance for the left side this year. The other player to arrive was Anthony Grant from another Premiership club, Chelsea. 20 year old Defensive Midfielder has a long way to go in my opinion of breaking into the first team every week but I think he can get there. Well I hope so anyway. Then Mika arrived yesterday. Mika Aaritalo from Finnish team Turun Palloseura, a little risk but a distant relative's friends uncle's son is a friend of him and says he is Premiership quality and after a quick scout report backing this statement, we quickly snapped him up. Hopefully he can bag us some goals this season. Last but not least, was our loanee coming in. Charlie Adam from Rangers plays an attacking role in the midfield and will surely make many appearances this season. However as you read earlier he is injured and will unfortunately miss our first game. Lets hope that doesn't happen though.

Updates will be like this every week and hopefully the match programmes in between updates. We only have one game next week away at Pomorac and I will update that just before the Weekly Review which will feature a little snippet of the match report. Anyway here are this season's Pre-Season friendlies;

Pomorac| A |21/7/07
Inter(Z)| A |24/7/07
Koprivnica| A |26/7/07

We aren't doing an online game, instead we are doing seperate games on seperate computers. Think of it like a comparison. Why, do you think he has no chance of doing better than me? :p
