What are you listening to now?

It's currently topping my iTunes play count, alongside Tainted Love, Word Up, Shout to the Top and a few other songs from the 80s...

I think I was born in the wrong era. :o

I have the same thing with the sixties!:p Now tainted Love...Soft Cell right? Shout to The Top.......mmmm who was that by......

Shout to the Top is by Style Council, I only have two songs of theirs but I listen to them both a lot!

It's interesting how one can be so associated with an era of music... I love everything about the 80s music, and I guess you are the same with 60s! I can't stand a lot of modern day music, and I guess I am not alone in that regard - but I just love the synth, new wave style of music from bands like Depeche Mode and New Order. I guess I'm just an 80s tragic. :(

Anyway, to stay reasonably on-topic I am listening to Wang Chung - Everybody Have Fun Tonight right now... it's a great light-hearted song.

I love Depeche Mode!

Abhas added 0 Minutes and 21 Seconds later...

Heard Jethro Tull? I like them as well.

Actually, I have heard of Jethro Tull but never really listened to much of their music. Can you recommend some of their songs for me?

Yeah, Depeche Mode are great also. There's obviously their classic hits like Just Can't Get Enough, but then there are some other ones I love to listen to - A Pain I'm Used To, Personal Jesus...

Ah the Style Council. Now I used to really like The Jam. Didnt really like it when whats his name went all Style Councilish:
Town Called Malice. An absolute legend song!

Wow! The name wasn't familiar with me, but I YouTubed it.. as you do, and I've heard it heaps. I learn names of songs every day. It is indeed a great song, but I never knew who wrote it!

They had some great songs....Paul Weller, thats the one!!!:)

Indeed it is. I only really listen to two songs from Style Council though - have never really heard any other ones. Not sure if I would be a big fan but I do like the two that I have.

Any other of your favourite bands from that era Dutchy?

Havn't heard much lately, but Aqualung was good, and so were locomotive breath, living in the past. Can't recall the others, but definitely worth a listen.

I'm a huge fan of Tears for Fears and I have a few songs from Simple Minds as well - Don't You Forget About Me and Promised You A Miracle.

I'll give Belfast Child a listen to though, I don't think I've heard that? As I said before though, I love Tears for Fears - a great band! They have some great songs - Shout, Mad World, Everybody Wants To Rule The World, Sowing The Seeds Of Love...

Also, have you listened to Talking Heads much? I find they are sort of a mix between the two bands you just mentioned.

Indeed. They never quite made it as big as they should have. A quality band amongst a load of rubbish at the time! One other that comes to mind from that era is Duran Duran; Dont Save A Prayer for Me Now....one of their better ones....

A song I really like is FisherZ...So Long.....great from the beginning of the eighties....

Can't believe I forgot them. They are another one of my favourite bands from the 80s.. they have heaps of great songs! The one you mentioned, as well as heaps others that I love. Girls on Film, Rio, Hungry Like The Wolf, Ordinary World, Planet Earth (one of my favourites)... I could go on and on! Maybe I should name a few more of my favourite bands to stop you pointing them out. :D

Some of my favourite bands are The Angels, The Clash, The Cure, David Bowie (although his career goes through multiple eras!), Depeche Mode, New Order, Crowded House + Split Enz, Fine Young Cannibals (best lead singer ;)), Frankie Goes To Hollywood, INXS, J. Geils Band, Toto, U2 (multiple eras), Human League... and so many more singles from other bands! (Call Me - Blondie, Footloose - Kenny Loggins)

Yeah, I could name a huge list of bands I love. But I tried to keep it fairly restrained - I don't actually have many huge favourite bands, however I listen to a huge variety of songs.

Indeed! I have that song on iTunes.

Wait, if you want a real laugh, look up the Fine Young Cannibals music video for 'She Drives Me Crazy'. The singer is an absolute star. :D
