What is the difference between a chromebook and a normal laptop?

What is the difference?

I wanted to buy a chromebook for £200 but a lot of people have said that they are pointless and isn't worth getting them. What is your opinion on it?

A Chromebook works on a web based operating system. You'd probably find it restricting as to what you want to do with it.
