I'm probably going to join the uni gym when semester two starts next week. It's annoying how you have to join it for a year though, because that means I'll have to stay a member over the summer when I doubt I'll go much (and they said that the fortnightly payment plan for like 5/6 months works out as more than the one off year payment).

Packing on that protein then. ;) If you're skinny and you want to get 'bigger' then yeah - just eat. Try not to compose your diet solely of takeaway food though, eh? ;)

I'm also gaining weight - intentionally. Using a formula found at bodybuilding.com, I've worked out that I need to eat around 2,800 calories a day in order to gain 0.5lbs a week. Gaining weight slowly is the key to stop it all becoming fat - and lifting heavy at the gym of course. ;)

Weight training is supposed to be a lot more effective than just cardio even when it comes to losing weight. To lose weight, you just need to eat less calories than you actually need each day. You can't really 'wing' this stuff - to get it right, you have to work it out for your individual body and yes, it is a bit of a faff to be honest but once you're done, you know how much you need to eat to gain, and how much you need to eat to cut.

Muscle takes up less room than fat, so the scale could be staying where it is - it could even indicate you're gaining weight, but muscle also looks a lot better than fat. It's really more about what you see in the mirror - don't just go by the scales. ;)

Wait - this is the fitness thread, isn't it? :lol Sorry if I've gone off on a bit of an off topic spiel. ;)

Do you know where you can get the sort of info on the amount of calories you should be taking in? I've been going hard at the gym but reckon I need a more dedicated plan like yours so I put on muscle instead of muscle and fat. I'd actually prefer losing some fat while putting on the muscle haha.

Yep, pop over to Bodybuilding.com and check the nutrition section. Read 'Calculating Calorie and Macro-nutrient Needs'. It's a bit of a faff; looks very complicated at first but once you've got it, you know how much you need to eat and how much protein, carbs, fat etc (yes, you do need to eat a certain amount of fat each day - it's actually crucial for your body's proper functioning; I was surprised as well). I'm useless at guiding people through it though - took me a while to get it done for myself. ;)

I'm doing All Pro's Simple beginner routine - you'll find it in the Workout program section as a sticky. The exercises are:

Squats, Bench Press, Bent over Row, Overhead Press, Stiff Legged/Romanian Deadlift, Bicep Curls and Calf Raises.

As you can see, it focuses on the big compound lifts - the ones everyone should be doing to really kick start some proper mass building.

Thanks mate.

Yeah I do all of those and a lot of other exercises as well. It's a lot easier for me, I just see a personal trainer every few months and he teaches me new exercises so I don't have to bother worrying about it myself:p.

How long have you been working out and how often? By the sounds of it it might be time you could move onto something more advanced. Do you do all that in one session? I spread all that out over an entire week.

Anyway better keep it on topic.

I bought a coke.

I hope it's Coca Cola. :yes

Quite so...

Anyone tried Coke Zero? I'm not usually a fan of these 'Zero' type drinks but I tried Fanta Zero and it was nowhere near as bad as these 'diet' drinks often are - that 'saccharine' aftertaste is still there, but it's not as noticeable. If Coke Zero does a similar job, I might switch to that as well.

There was a time about 5-6 years ago that I preferred Coke Zero. It could happen for you as well I guess, but I'd stay away from it, it's pretty bad for you, in different ways to normal Coke. All the chemicals and what not to keep the calories and sugars down.

It definitely has an aftertaste. Fanta Zero probably doesn't since normal Fanta already has an orangey aftertaste anyway.

Nothing beats a nice Coke though, from the can of course.

Sandals and do you know who was the manufacturer?? EA SPORTS :yes
Haha..got it from my friend's shop. India, I tell you.

OK - thanks for the heads up. I don't drink huge amounts of fizzy drinks anyway - most of my drinks are water and milk. Not together though; that would be disgusting. ;)
