Where are the good international bowlers?

Steyn, Morkel, Aamer, Johnson, Swann, Harbhajan Singh, Ajmal, Asif and many others are still bowling well and making life difficult for batsmen around the world. Its not like we are totally devoid of quality bowlers. Some of these bowlers will definitely bloom into greats in due time. I tip Aamer, Morne and Johnson to be among the greats before they retire.

And finally, there are the bowlers who came, made an impact, had a lot of talk about them, but faded away. Friedel de Wet, Sreesanth, RP, Piyush Chawla, Panesar, Botha, Tsotsobe, Fernando. There is always a chance for players like these to re-emerge and take the world by storm.

That's a little harsh on Friedel, he got injured in his second test and is still recovering, he hasn't being dropped or forgotten.

Most of the great bowlers of yesteryear would struggle to maintain the records they had in this day and age. Pitches all over the world have become flatter and flatter. What some bowlers like Asif and Steyn have done is quite amazing, they have records which would make you think they played fifteen years ago.

Flatter pitches have also made bowlers incredibly conservative, gone are the days of teams regularly having five slips and no third man, they need boundryriders to keep the runs down because the batsman don't need to worry about any sideways movement.

Captains still don't have a third-man these days. :sarcasm
