Who should be India's number three batsman ?

Laxman's career is as good as over after the disastrous tour of Australia.There is no guarantee that he will even be picked in the squad and play in India's next Test series...

Dont be so sure... Now that Dravid is gone, they might want to extend Laxman's career a little bit to make sure we dont have a splurge of retirements. Maybe they might think about Laxman as the temporary No.3 while they insert a new guy (Pujara or Rohit Sharma) into the side, let him play for sometime and then see if this new guy or Kohli will be the future No.3.

Well I'm afraid what the selectors want and what will happen are 2 different things. I'm sure the selectors DO want to extend Laxman's career. But if he's as ineffective this coming season as he was in the last overseas tours, then there's no reason to be sentimental - he'll be finished and should retire ASAP.

I suppose we are going to keep on playing at home till mid of 2013. Effectively, it was Laxman's last overseas tour. If the selectors want to groom a new team, it should start now.
Since we take on NZL next,at home, I think Laxman should be given an opportunity to play in that series. Additionally, Tendulkar needs to step down immediately from ODI's. Agreed he can contribute ,but his contributions have been slow and have affected the team's performances. With him coming in and out of the side, the No.3 batsman keeps on changing in ODIs. It upsets the team balance.
