Windows 8

Guys, I'm don't have much knowledge about computer hardware and all so could anyone please tell me if Windows 8 will work in my computer bearing the following specifications:

Intel Core2Duo 2.4, 2GB DDR2 RAM, 240 GB Hard-disk SATA. No graphics card.

By the way, I'm currently using Win7 32bit and it works as a charm in my PC.

Just about every hardware config will run 8 better than 7 - Microsoft have done a huge amount of optimisation, and most drivers for 7 work on 8.

If you go to the buy link, it downloads an upgrade program that will run a test on your hardware and software and give you a list of compatibility issues before you purchase the upgrade.

So, this is what I got for review. Seems that Windows 8 will work alright in my PC despite not having graphics card and all. What you say hardware cognoscente?

Would need to see the whole list - there might be a way to save the report, otherwise scroll down and take a few extra screenshots.

A quick google says that Office 2003 works on Windows 8, but isn't supported officially. Indeed I had a few apps it told me weren't supported but worked fine after the upgrade.

Here is the full list. Please check and confirm.

I basically got same result as Fenil but instead of "install an app to play dvd'", I got "Your screen resolution doesn't meet the requirement to install apps from the Windows Store". Is screen resolution a big deal? I'm using a mini laptop and this is the highest the screen resolution can get - 1024-600.

Yep, that shows everything should work. So it's just a matter of whether you want to move to Windows 8 or not.

Yes, stay on Windows 7.

A sigh of relief really. My brother who is a system administrator said we would need a graphics card for it (what an irony! I'm a noob in the same thing). I'm still a bit cautious because I've lost my copy of windows 7 DVD and if Windows8 won't work I'll be in a dire situation as we run our business through it (the computer).

You have a 'graphics card' - it is just integrated into the motherboard. Windows 8 actually tones down some of the more graphics intensive things compared to Windows 7.

If you don't have your Win 7 DVD, take a backup of your computer using a system image (If you go to Control Panel->Backup and Restore, you should have this option to backup your computer to a system image). Also, ,create a repair disc too (from the same place) so that if something goes wrong, you can revert back to your old system.

Many thanks for that piece of advice, my friend. Same goes to Matt. Now, I can install Windows 8 as soon as possible. Thanks again, guys. ::thumbs

Minimum resolution is 768 I believe.

Another MS bloated special design to push people on new hardware.
So don't buy it. In my experience it runs faster than Windows 7 on the same hardware - and for $40 to increase the speed of the software I use every single day, that's a far better deal than any hardware upgrade.
