Microsoft Announces Vista Hardware Requirements!

I absolutely agree with puddleduck there. Its better to wait for the inevitable service pack (as well as patches that correct the new bugs introduced in the service pack) before upgrading to Vista.

Actually, MS is trying hard to get Vista right, because those beta versions got nice amount of beatings.and debacle after debacle left bad tastes in mouth of beta testers.

As for patches, considering tremendous base a MS operation system would enjoy, patches would be envitable.

Its nice to believe so - but this has been the case with every windows till date. Tall promises have fallen flat. As you yourself say, MS products are made to be compatible with almost all hardware and software, which is a reason for many of the security holes and other problems that exist in windows. But that is no reason for the paying public to endure a sub-standard product (after paying hundreds of dollars), whatever the reason for its inadequacies. Hence, it is better for most people to wait a while after Vista is released so that the bigger errors can be fixed before upgrading to that OS.
