World Test Team

Any team without Chanderpaul should be instantly ignored. He's at the top of the ICC rankings and he's got the highest average in the last year apart from Misbah (who only played 6 innings). Just on numbers alone he is the top batsmen, not to mention he is always batting in bad situations.

My top 7:
1. V.Sehwag
2. M.Hayden
3. K.Sangakkara
4. M.Jayawardene
5. S.Chanderpaul
6. M.Hussey
7. A.Symonds

And bowlers:
Spinner: A.Mendis
3 Quicks: D.Steyn, R.Sidebottom, B.Lee (when he hasn't got Delhi Belly)

You picked Symonds even though you think he's really overrated (sig)?

Yea, it seems to be his bowling. I'd agree to that. But he is a magnificent sight to watch batting, just so strong and tear anyone apart. Players like him, KP, Hayden, Gilly...you need one of them in your side at all times to turn the match in your favour. And he's a good fielder. Aslong as he plays as a pure bat, I believe he deserves to be there. But he is inconsistent, so it is debatable.

Ok so here is mine.

1. Sehwag
2. Smith/Hayden (both guys have been hurt and I haven't seen Hayden really perform since he came back and Smith is yet to play)
3. Sangakkara+
4. Jayawardene*
5. Chanderpaul
6. Hussey
7. Flintoff (he seems to be healthy enough and it looks like he has his form back. I also want a squad with 2 spinners.)
8. Vettori
9. Mendis
10. Steyn
11. Lee

His sig is referring to Symonds' bowling not batting.

I think.

Correct. I am just constantly annoyed that Symonds is seen as a god of cricket. I'll give him credit for what he's done well. He's batted very well in the last year or two, hence his inclusion in my XI. But suggesting he is some world class all-rounder is total bollocks. His bowling is...adequate I guess. If ball is swinging he can bowl a couple of useful ball or if the pitch is gripping too with his spinners. But otherwise he is cannon fodder. I think the main thing is people get excited how he can bowl pace and spin. So what?? Combine Mike Hussey and Michael Clarke together in bowling ability and you aren't losing much to Symonds.

Take my XI for example. Sehwag and Symonds are my batsmen who can bowl. The common man says that Symonds is the all-rounder here and would get the 10 overs a day the main 4 might not bowl, but I think Sehwag is just as good a bowler than Symonds - he just can't bowl medium pace.

Oh and let me swap Murali in, Mendis out. I won't board the Mendis train right away, make him 12th man.

1. Hayden
2. Sehwag
3. Sanga
4. Sachin
5. Laxman
6. Hussey
7. Pathan
8. Kumble
9. Steyn
10. Lee (looked tired and overworked in CB finals)
11. Zaheer khan (not injured)

Pathan?Interesting (he cant swing the ball ,like he used to do earlier),i wont pick him, rather I would have gone for Murli/Harbhajan (there is no quality spinner in your test side),or possibly one fast bowler like Akhtar/Asif

Well, Hayden hasn't been that hot for the past few months. I was thinking of replacing him with Gambhir or Smith.

Mahela >>> Ponting for me, including the big captaincy factor. Went with Dhoni instead of King Sanga in my XI because we probably need some of the quicker batsman in at 6 and 7.

Plus, Zaheer is the best leftie in the world right now.

Sehwag
Hayden

Tendulkar
Chanderpaul
Hussey
Sangakkara (WK)
Flintoff
Zaheer Khan
Steyn
Mendis

Must be the 5th team I've posted in this thread, but it's good to continually update :p
