Level of play: Normal, ICC 2006
After touching the depths of mediocrity in 2005, Yorkshire are back with a bang in 2006!
They have won the County Championship, Challenge Trophy and 20-20 apart from finishing first in Division 2 of the Pro League.
The batting was stronger than the bowling and the ones topping the charts are Darren Lehmann(K), Matthew Wood (opener), and Michael Lumb.
Lehmann has been Bradmanesque (overused, but he deserves it) this season, averaging an obscene 105 in CC!! He keeps going strong even @ 37
Wood was consistent, though he had to miss out for 4 weeks due to an injury.
Michael Lumb reaffirmed his stature as a top batsman in the team
Michael Vaughan (whenever he's been available, has been an impact player, in fact he had the highest score of 261 in the domestic circuit)
Joseph Sayers (opener) showed glimpses of his capability.
In the bowling department, it was Hoggard who did most of the damage. He put in fine performances though he was usually away playing for the national side. Turned out to be the highest wicket-taker for the team.
Jason Gillespie (overseas) was disappointing. Started the season poorly and though he came back stronger towards the latter part of the season, he didn't do enough to deserve a contract renewal.
Among youth batsmen, Lawrence Wodehouse and Raymond Pointer started off strongly.
Craig White retired at the end of season and was replaced by Lance Klusener (one allrounder for another). Other new recruits are Ian Blackwell and James Dalrymple.
Let's see if Yorks can make it 4/4 in 2007...
