Jaya. Younis plays and misses a lot when he bats.
Are you serious? I never see Younus Khan miss the ball to be honest....
And I vote Younus Khan, and heres why -
Mahela Jayawardene's average in England is 42.85. Younus Khan's average is 52.22 in England.
Mahela Jayawardene's average in Oceania (New Zealand & Australia) is a paltry 31.20. Younus Khan's average in Oceania (NZ & Australia) is 53.90.
Jayawardene's aveage in Asia is 58.72, compared to Younus Khan's 55.01.
As it shows, Younus is more likely to succeed on a bouncy pitch or a seaming track than Mahela Jayawardene. While both are good players, I'd rather have Younus in my team if we're playing in England or NZ or Australia, but Jayawardene if we're playing in Asia.
That is all regarding test cricket by the way.
As far as ODIs are concerned, I would again back Younus Khan.
Both players have poor averages in the one day game, but Younus Khan comes back on top in the seaming pitches arena.
When the opposite team has won the toss, and sent them in (Sri Lanka / Pakistan), Mahela Jayawardene averages only 22.55.
However, Younus Khan in the same scenario averages 33.66 in such a situation. When a team wins the toss, and sends the opposition in, it is probably a very decent pitch to bowl on, where there is seam and swing.
In South Africa, Mahela Jayawardene averages JUST 16.60. Compare that to Younus Khan's 26.00, which is still not impressive, but far ahead of Jayawardene.
The other thing to take note of is for some inexplicable reason which surprised me was Jayawardene averages just 28.41 in Pakistan, coming off of a tournament which had the flattest pitches known to man.
In Test Cricket, I would comfortably back Younus Khan. In one day cricket, its a tough choice between Younus and Mahela, but I would again back Younus Khan.
