Bloody Minded Innings in Cricket.

I think Tendulkar's one in 1989 would do it for me. 16, Waqar Younis, bouncer in the nose, and then making 50 thats damn impressive.

Mccosker who came out to play with a broken jaw in the 2nd inning of the Centenary test. They weren't wearing helmets back then. He made 25, but it's a great feat to bat with a broken jaw without a helmet on.

Gilly Fan added 1 Minutes and 54 Seconds later...

VVS Laxman's 281 against Australia at the Eden Gardens in 2001.

He wasn't injured.

Dean Jones' 210 in the tied test. Throwing up everywhere and urinating on the pitch. That'd have to be one of the gutsiest innings ever.

Didn't make for good viewing though.

Tendulkar played the entire WC 2003 sporting a heel injury and took field always after taking painkiller injections. Ended up scoring the max runs.

Sore elbow to the point where he can't brush his teeth and a broken hand to the point where he can hardly grip the bat?

NO doubt it was a gutsy thing. But there are people who have braved even more serious injury than Smith's and did extremely well.

Had he helped SA draw the match, it would have certainly been worth it

See my above post on Courtney Walsh and Anil Kumble.

If you think Walsh is worse than Smith then you are nuts. Shane Warne bowled 70 overs in his 100th test at Cape Town with a torn hamstring. And that was in 1 innings! He took 8 wickets for the game. He bowled 28 in the first, so 98 overs with a torn hamstring. That alone is worse than Walsh.

yea but Walsh is a pace bowler running in from a longer distance and putting more stress on that hamstring.

but in no way is are either of those worse than Smiths.

Anyone remember the TIED TEST MATCH in MADRAS where Dean Jones scored 210 and had to be rushed to the hospital immediately after he got out due to severe dehydration? That innings wins this topic hands down IMO. Detailed account of that innings:

Cricinfo - 'Tied Test marked the renaissance of Australian cricket'
Was just about to post that - Deano is the most Aussie Australian ever. He was vomiting all over the pitch, dehydrated, faint, sick to his stomach but he batted on and picked up a heroic double century.

Anyone who doesn't think that's the best ever is insane.
