ICC World Twenty20

Nope Tuesady(today) is the last day for announcing the squad,as per the ICC's instruction.
Yup Karthik should have been there instead of Jadeja, would have been as a back up WK for Dhoni.

Squad: Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke, Nathan Bracken, Brad Haddin, Nathan Hauritz, Ben Hilfenhaus, James Hopes, Michael Hussey, David Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Peter Siddle, Andrew Symonds, David Warner, Shane Watson.

No real startling choice there, other than perhaps Lee. Watson will be expected to bowl, but they've been looking at both Lee and Watson bowl in the last couple of weeks and the staff would have a good idea how well both of them are doing.

I'm kinda gobsmacked though that Cameron White wasn't included :D The selectors have bent over backwards to select him for every T20 fixture in the last couple of years. Looks like the honeymoon is over :banana2

Here's my XI from that squad:
1. Shane Watson
2. Ricky Ponting (c)
3. Michael Clarke
4. Andrew Symonds
5. Michael Hussey
6. Callum Ferguson/D.Hussey/Warner
7. Brad Haddin
8. Mitch Johnson
9. Brett Lee/Siddle/Hilfy
10. Nathan Hauritz
11. Nathan Bracken

Now the real side will have Haddin opening with Watson and everyone sliding down a spot, but I think Ricky Ponting would make a very good T20 opener. At #3 he's coming in when the bowlers have found their line and length, but at the top he can dictate to the bowlers and punish their early looseness, something he is so good at. Might help him get some large scores, and it would get our best batsman batting for as long as possible a la Sachin Tendulkar. Michael Clarke would be an excellent #3 if there is an early wicket, but I would skip over him if the openers bat for 5 or more overs and bring Haddin up to #3 instead to attack hard in the middle overs.

I'd like Brett Lee in the team, but if it's not happening for him I think Hilfenhaus could be quite good and Siddle's not bad, but a bit unproven in ODI/T20 cricket at this stage.

Don't know why Dussey is in there, Hodge has been the best T20 batter in Aus for the past few seasons and now he is performing in the IPL.
Anyway my 11 would be

Warner
Watson
Ponting
Symonds
Hussey
Ferguson
Haddin
Lee
Hauritz
Johnson
Bracken

I don't think Clarke is suited to the T20 game but he will be picked over Ferguson.

I don't understand why you guys are mentioning Ferguson, because he isn't in the squad. I don't understand also why Hodge isn't selected and David Hussey is, because of the form of these players.

ZexyZahid added 5 Minutes and 38 Seconds later...

The Pakistani team has two unknown players for the international circuit. But that might be good. Tanvir was also pretty unknown, when he played for Pakistan during the previous World Cup Twenty20.

Looking at the Indian side I see Dravid and Tendulkar aren't selected, while a couple of off-form players are selected.

I was following sifter. Clarke will be the 4 then, with Hussey and Symonds for the big hitting. Still a bit worried about Haddin hitting potential lower down the order.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt.), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Yusuf Pathan, Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar, Rudra Pratap Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Pragyan Ojha, Irfan Pathan.

India's final squad looks pretty decent. A perfect T-20 team.

My XI

1. Veeru
2. Gauti
3. Raina
4. Yuvraj
5. Yusuf Pathan
6. Jadeja
7. Dhoni (c) (wk)
8. Irfan/P.Kumar
9. Vajji
10. Zaheer
11. Ishant/RP

Ishant shoudn't be in the XI, certainly not ahead of RP Singh. If I was India I'd go with:

1. Virender Sehwag
2. Gautam Gambhir
3. Suresh Raina
4. Yuvraj Singh
5. MS Dhoni +
6. Yusuf Pathan
7. Irfan Pathan
8. Harbhajan Singh
9. Zaheer Khan
10. Pragyan Ojha
11. RP Singh

Could be risky going in with 2 spinners, 3 if you count Yusuf, but I think spin works in T20, and Ojha's been class in the IPL, so get him in the side. Zaheer, RP Singh and Irfan Pathan offer enough in the seam department, with Ojha, Harbhajan, Yusuf and Yuvraj offering the spin options. I wanted Rohit Sharma in the side, but couldn't really fit him in, as it would have meant overloading the batting and having Yusuf as 5th bowler, or replacing UV KING OF SIXERS, which isn't going to happen.

This would be my XI.

Virender Sehwag
Gautam Gambhir
Suresh Raina
+MS Dhoni*
Yusuf Pathan
Ravindra Jadeja/Rohit Sharma(Sharma would bat ahead of Yusuf if he played)
Irfan Pathan
Praveen Kumar
Harbhajan Singh
Zaheer Khan
RP Singh/ Pragyan Ojha

I would prefer Rohit over Jadeja if I were to have an extra batsman.
Also Praveen Kumar would be a very useful bowler. We can switch between him and Ojha when needed.

Rohit Sharma has been useless in International scene. Even Ishant has been poor. Time hes got kick and told to get his attitude right. He looks like sucess has gone in his head.

Yeah, these days we all have our own facts. What is fact according to me is not fact according to you. Well, we have started re-wording 'opinion' into 'fact' to the extent that the word itself has lost its reputation.

Man what the ef, I provided the evidence with it, "according to me is not fact according to you" we're talking about stats over here not Social democracy. Ps. I provided evidence therefore it's a "reality", though depending on how you manage to see it as.

11. Ishant/RP

I wouldn't play Dhoni that low down the order. I would take out Jadeja bring in Pragyan Ojha and play with 2 spinners.

I would go with this

Sehwag
Gambhir
Raina
Dhoni +*
Yuvraj
Y.Pathan
I.Pathan
Harbhajan
Ojha
Z.Khan
RP Singh

I'm sorry but Ishant just doesn't cut it for me as a 20/20 bowler, at least not for now.

Thats a good looking team except that I would swap Dhoni with Raina in the batting order. Raina can hit bigger and better these days than Dhoni, who has said that he takes time to start hitting. His game has completely changed. He should go one down and the big hitters like Yuvraj and Raina should come after him. Dhoni is also a hare between the wickets and he can keep the scoring rate at 8 runs per over just by his running.

In a game where we dont need 5 bowlers, we can swap out a spinner or a fast bowler for Rohit Sharma who is in good form too.
