What do you think our test team will be this summer? I think it is time for ponting to give up the captaincy but still play though.

1. Katich
2. Hughes
3. Ponting
4. Clarke
5. North
6. Watson
7. Haddin
8. Johnson
9. Lee
10. Hauritz
11. Hilfenhaus

However once the oldies retire i think it should be like this sooner rather than later if we are truly rebuilding.

1. Marsh
2. Hughes
3. Clarke
4. North
5. Carseldine/Voges/Pomersbach/Fergusen
6. Watson
7. Haddin
8. Johnson
9. Lee
10. Haury
11. Hilfenhaus

Once the oldies retire?

Brett Lee's 32 isn't he. I'm pretty sure he won't be playing by the time Shaun Marsh and Luke Pomersbach make thier test debut, if they ever do that is.

I'm picking the team to look something like this:

1.Hughes
2.Katich
3.Ponting
4.Clarke
5.North
6.Watson
7.Haddin
8.Johnson
9.Siddle
10.Hauritz/Clark
11.Hilfenhaus

I would also try to have Jaques in there, he's 3-4 times the batsman Marsh is in all forms of the game.

Good topic mate.

I'd say Hussey will be gone. We don't have another big series until the 10/11 Ashes rematch, and he'll be one of 4 of our current squad who will over 35 by then (Ponting, Katich, Hussey and Stuart Clark). Sorry Huss, you're one of my favourites, but you can't be carried anymore - the future awaits.

Watson (or Katich) should be put down in the middle order and we'll have another opener. The big question is over Hughes. If the selectors see his struggles with straight deliveries as a MASSIVE problem, I can't see him being back in the side. He'll be told to work on his game for NSW. In that case Phil Jaques might be a chance at getting his old job back. Chris Rogers might be a chance, or Michael Klinger, Shaun Marsh would be an outside chance. But Jaquesy would be the best chance if he scores well early in the season.

For bowlers, I would love to see some rotation happening. We now have a stable of good quicks: Johnson, Siddle, Hilfy, Lee and Clark. While it hasn't been obvious until this Test, one of the strengths of this Ashes squad is the 5 quicks and the different options and combinations it has offered Ponting in selection.

Having said that, I think Lee and Clark should be phased out in favour of the younger blokes. How that is done will be interesting. I would do something like this: There are 6 Tests this summer and if we play 3 quicks for each, give Johnson, Hilfy and Siddle 4 each. Give Lee, Clark and Bollinger 2 each. Keeps the bowlers fresh. If the team is struggling, stop rotating the bowlers and play with only your best.

I'm not sure if the summer's Test cricket will force changes. However, I'm sure the ODI side will go through a hundred changes between now and January.

Australia team this summer should be.
1. Katich
2. Hughes
3. Ponting
4. Clarke
5. North
6. Watson
7. Haddin
8. Johnson
9. Lee
10. Hauritz
11. Hilfenhaus

If any of player get's retired like ponting or anyone had any injury then there should be place for jaques for sure he has ability to play test cricket for sure.:)

1. Katich
2. Hughes
3. Ponting
4. Clarke
5. Watson/North
6. Watson/North
7. Haddin
8. Johnson
9. Siddle
10. Clark
11. Hilfenhaus

Lee and Hauritz are right there, not sure who to omit. Pretty strong line up. I might be forgetting someone, I just quickly posted it, didn't think about it really.

Probably the squad:
1. Katich
2. Rogers (or Jacques if fit and in form)
3. Ponting
4. Clarke
5. North
6. Klinger
7. Haddin
8. Johnson
9. Holland/Hauritz (get the sense they'll try a few spinners)
10. Siddle
11. Hilfenhaus
Watson will be injured. Hussey will probably get dropped unless he does something special.

1. Simon Katich
2. Phil Hughes/Phil Jaques
3. Ricky Ponting
4. Michael Clarke
5. Shane Watson
6. Marcus North
7. Brad Haddin
8. Mitchell Johnson
9. Brett Lee/Peter Siddle
10. Nathan Hauritz
11. Ben Hilfenhaus

^Agree with this.

Lee is a good shot at getting a game IMHO, although if Australia wins the Ashes without him next week, he may find it tough to push the other 3 aside.
