"MS Dhoni has signed a a two-year endorsement deal worth approximately Rs 2 billion ($ 42 million) with a sports marketing agency. The deal surpasses the three-year deal worth Rs 1.8 billion ($38 million) that Sachin Tendulkar signed back in 2006.

Dhoni will be represented by a joint venture between Rhiti Sports Management run by Arun Pandey, a former Indian first class cricketer, and advertising agency Mindscapes. The venture will be responsible for the gamut of Dhoni's endorsements, from brand associations to digital rights, as well as his presence on social networking sites. Mindscapes was already managing Dhoni's endorsements prior to the deal, but not the rest of his properties.

With the World Cup being held in the India next year, Dhoni's brand value stands to increase as companies will want to take advantage of the publicity the event is bound to attract. He had signed with Mindscape last year after ending his previous deal with sports management firm Gameplan Sports in 2008. Rhiti Sports also manages fellow Indian cricketers R P Singh and Harbhajan Singh. "

Big bucks huh. If I'm right, is this not similar to what some Premier League footballers earn ? Or do they earn more than this ? Either way, lotta money, good on him :D

Good for him. He's getting the maximum out of his cricketing career and that's not really blameful.

Which means, very soon the tweets of Dhoni that we read in twitter might actually posted by these guys who would be managing Dhoni's presence on social networking sites. Probably will stop following Dhoni soon on twitter!

I guess many of the stars now will appoint people to represent them on twitter, facebook, etc and the people will think the stars themselves are posting it. Its going to turn out to be another abuse of the system by our people.

Lots of indian celebrities(especially some talentless bolly people) are using twitter for publicity purposes these days.

But I follow Sehwag, Sachin, Yuvi and Zak. :D

Highly highly highly doubt he would be earning more than the likes of Lionel Messi and co.

yeah he must be nowhere near them.

Professional sports players in the US make more than that from their salary, forget endorsements. For example, I believe it was Joe Johnson who recently signed a 6-year, $120 million contract with the Hawks. That's before any endorsements--that's just salary.

This is endorsements. If you add up salary and endorsements of premier football players or American athletes, Dhoni would not be near. Dhoni is the highest paid cricketer when you take into account endorsements and salaries, though. Sachin is second.

He has really made a mark in Advertisements.

Just heard from a friend he and John Abrahem are in a movie Hook Or Crook. He is playing full time actor :p

Why are you saying so? He has done his captaincy well, he is playing well so why are you saying this?
