I would want BA to first flesh out career mode even more and indepth before they look into manager mode, other wise it would be just tacking on feature for features sake.

Infact the next iteration i would want them to rather perfect all the game mechanism and flesh out what is present already in depth before venturing to new fields.

presumably as they did have a manager-style career mode, they'll be able to bring over player development, regens and evolving teams etc. in to flesh out the existing career mode?

i've played it... you're right it's not unenjoyable though i didn't bother buying the last one because i played the demo and in every game, every single game, the side batting last won. didn't matter whether they were chasing 100 on a third day pitch or 400 on a 5th day pitch. was just beyond a joke.

i just find people posting i want to do this this this and this and never remotely acknowledging how far removed from reality it is.
Hmm, I can't say I noticed that to be honest... I've had plenty of big collapses when chasing a score in the final innings in ICC :p. Usually it's match engine is pretty spot on but I didn't play much of the last one either, just the trial as well. The new edition is scheduled to be released on Steam at 8pm tonight so may check that out.

Even if the mode were just the typical one player Career mode but letting you play as the whole team that would be OK for the first time around for me - it's just impossible to play a domestic season with all of the competitions in place at the minute.

the coach in football has responsibility for in-game tactics, in cricket they don't. once the game starts, that's it. you don't decide the bowling changes, set the fields etc. that's the captain's job.

essentially, what in football is generally the responsibility of the manager (player development (including appointing coaches), general strategy, and in-game tactical switches) is in cricket split between a coach and captain. therefore any captain mode or coach mode or manager mode in cricket means you either give the captain or coach responsibility that they don't really have, or you would have to massively restrict the options available to the player.

i am not saying that you can't fudge a playable, even enjoyable outcome, i am saying that outcome is divorced from reality.

The outcome is divorced from reality in football management games too. Very few clubs actually just let managers go about their business in negotiating contract, and whilst such things are simulated to an extent, there are clubs now that have different people for transfers and contracts than actually coaching the first team. If they can still merge such roles in football management games, then why not allow the player to be the panel of selections (or as the country does), the coach and the captain. In FIFA you can be the coach, the players on the park and such, and in the game now you can play as the whole team. No need to play the "divorced from reality card" when it's done that way across the board.

A management mode, similar to Cricket Coach, with squad selections, bringing players through and such would not only be fun, but is no more ridiculous than any other sports management game in terms of its connections to reality.

The best thing about it is that in terms of actually making such a mode, the gearing is largely something that is in itself fleshing out career mode as it is to be better. It's nothing taking anything away, but fleshing out player development, generated players, team changes, squad selections, AI selection, international rankings and all the like, you are also fixing the most glaring issues with the current manager mode, they can most certainly go hand in hand.

I think the major advantage of a sort of dual manager / career mode - you can still play as only one player, but you get to make manager decisions as well - would be that it would be easier than programming ai to act realistically in this respect, which is kind of a downside of career mode as it stands.

As a massive fan of the football manager games, I find it strange to say but, I'd hate DBC to go down that route. In a cricketing sense the only coach type role I'd like in the game is as a captain be able to pick the XI you want to take the field and be able to change the batting line up if you wanted. Regens hopefully will be added in future so the career mode has more longevity, but on the whole, as blockerdave said, fleshing out the existing features should be a priority over any management sim type malarkey.

In cricket the coach has the control over the management, strategy making, team selection etc, it will be a great if we see two career modes options the one "Coach mode" as well as "career mod(current one)". Where in coach mode we will have the option to play with a full team and the performance of coach will be judged with specific targets and he could lose his job if he fails to achieve the objectives or his team performs poorly over a period of time so it means "coach mode" can be in depth with exciting challenges and pressure situations.

But that's not being coach, that's being God and controlling everything

just going to mention the cricket coach games, which are pretty fun and give you things to do in game (and also let you pick your team).

a realistic "coach" code in a cricket game would be awful because you have selectors and whatever; it'd only work at the domestic level, and about two people in the world have becoming coach of sussex as top of the wish list

We do the same by controlling everything while playing a cricket game except the career mode in DBC 14. My point is that we play numerous kinds of cricket tournaments, leagues etc so adding a coach option with challenges and objectives to achieve could give us something more to build a reputation as a coach. A coach at domestic level is influential buying or developing players and clubs at domestic levels buy players and release players, now we see players loan system in county cricket. Many aspects can be added to a "Coach Mode" to make it very exciting, this is my opinion but the current career mode in DBC 14 needs lots of changes, i been thinking a lot regarding this current career mode in DBC 14 where a cricketer should start from a lower level with lots efforts required to even play First Class or List A cricket and then play International cricket although a brilliant job done by BigAntStudios. Good to hear from you, Best wishes

I agree with you but i believe that "Coach Mode" is something never happened in a cricket game and innovation in this aspect of a cricket game could prove a big success, For example: A coach signs contract with Sussex and done a good job now he has offers from some clubs/domestic teams around the world and getting International coaching offers too. Lots of things could be added to take the "Coach mode" to next level if BigAntStudios has any plans. Thanks for your valuable input, best wishes

I think it would be great if we could assign an individual level to each player from legend to rookie, it would create a balanced batting line up where for example your openers, ie: Hobbs & Sutcliffe could be set at legend level and grade down through the team so 10 and 11 could be rated as rookie.
This would give the diversity of the last few men in being poorer at batting than the specialist batsmen. It could be a tab set in the academy for each player next to skills, each person could set it however they liked, to create a team of superstars or all rookies like a town team. It could be independent of the overall skill level too.
The academy is close to this already where in the nets you can have a poor batsmen facing a great bowler. I realise this wouldn't be a patch just an idea for future versions.

This surely is a next gen stuff which @Ross can think of adding for career mode in the next iterations....This is so cool....You guys have made a different approach to cricket games so surely things like these will be a great welcome for cricket gaming...
