International 20/20 Club Championship

In 2004, the England & Wales Cricket Board held an invitational match between the English and South African 20/20 champions in the build-up to the Twenty20 Cup. Surrey Lions, winners of the ECB Invitational, were mistakenly reported as “International Club Champions” by a media outlet, prompting a moment of eureka from the ECB and leading to the creation of the International 20/20 Club Championship, cricket's very own Champions League.

A T20 Champions League was the first league I ever attempted to run on the forums, and needless to say, I had no idea what I was doing for its brief and inconclusive run. About eight and a half years ago, I gave this weird obssesion of mine another go with the CLT20 Rewind league, and again, I did not know what I was doing. It was a haphazard league, poorly put together with no real longterm planning behind it. It too was shelved, but with a much longer run than the original league. Since then, I've spent my free time in research and preparation for what this idea can truly become, and with a great deal of help from @Aislabie, who basically outlined the entire run of this league, I finally feel confident enough to relaunch a very basic but compelling idea (IMHO): what if cricket gained its own Champions League the very moment the T20 format was born?

The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is all set to launch the International 20/20 Club Championship, with all reigning domestic 20/20 champions from around the world converging to take part in the competition, which is to be held between June 13 and 17 at Grace Road and The Oval.

International 20/20 Club Championship takes flight in the heart of the English summer
Six of the top-performing domestic clubs from around the world will converge in England to contest the first global tournament of its kind, pitting the best of club cricket against each other in a high-stakes, invite-only competition at the inaugural International 20/20 Club Championship.
ECB to host South African 20/20 champions in Invitational Match
The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced details earlier today of a one-off invitational match set to take place at The Oval later this month. This marquee fixture will pit the English Twenty20 Cup winners, Surrey Lions, against South Africa's own 20/20 titleholders, the Diamond Eagles.

Allan Donald named in Eagles squad for ECB Invitational
Diamond Eagles, the South African Standard Bank Pro20 Series winners, have named their squad for the ECB Invitational. Nicky Boje will lead the team, which includes Loots Bosman, an explosive batsman who ripped apart oppositions in the Pro20 Series, finishing as the tournament's highest run-scorer. The squad also includes Thandi Tshabalala and Cliffe Deacon, as well as Boeta Dippenaar and Morne van Wyk, future South African prospects.

Surrey Lions become International Club Champions
Surrey's pursuit of 165 began with early wobbles that saw them reeling at 30/4 before the seasoned duo of Adam Hollioake (60 off 40) and Mark Ramprakash (50 off 38) steadied the ship with a substantial 105-run stand, shifting the momentum back in Surrey's favor. A late flurry of wickets kept the Lions on their toes before Surrey captain Jonathan Batty sealed the game in dramatic fashion with a four and a six off Allan Donald in the final over.
