ICC Awards 2007

Ponting retains Cricketer of Year

Cricinfo staff

September 10, 2007

In a year of spectacular success for Australia it was only fitting that Ricky Ponting dominated the awards night in Johannesburg. He was named Player of the Year for the second year in a row, and he also won the Captain of the Year award and was named in both the ODI and the Test teams of the year. His efforts with the bat were outstanding - 576 runs in five Tests at an average of 82.28, an ODI average of 51.52 during the period August 9, 2006 to August 8, 2007 - while as captain he won the three huge series over the last year: the Ashes, the Champions Trophy and the World Cup. Ponting couldn't have asked for much more.

Btw Drew, Vaughan is supposed to be in the Test team. That's a Cricinfo booboo.

Australia played all of 5 Tests during the said time, didn't they?

Lazy beggars :D

I've just noticed Shaun Tait already has 28 ODI wickets in just 15 matches, nearly 2 wickets a match at a SR of 26.46.

No wonder he got emerging player of the year.

ODi Team of the year:
Matthew Hayden, Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Kevin Pietersen, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Jacques Kallis, Mark Boucher (wk), Chaminda Vaas, Shane Bond, Muttiah Muralitharan, Glenn McGrath.

ROFL at that.
No Ganguly and No bell...rofl rofl :rtfl

Some strange decisions, quite amusing really.

Good to see Mohammad Yousuf winning an award. He is the first Pakistani to win it. Also Asif had a great year, so it's not unusual he has been named in the Test team.

And I expected Ponting to win a lot.

Yes but why should he even be allowed to win the awards. It was a disgrace he was even allowed to play this year, let a loan again.

The teams they pick are always pretty wrong.
