Matches Posted 2023 Indian One-Day Championship | Round 18 - GT vs DC @ Rajkot - It's all come down to the last game

Wow. Some great entertainment over here from the sidelines. Incredible match that one. MS Dhoni strikes form at a very important stage of the tournament. Well played Rajasthan. Congrats @Life Warrior @User2010 and also @VC the slogger @The Deadman

Expecting a great Final from 2 of the most impressive sides in this tournament. :cheers

It feels so nasty now . Even after two provided chances . Batsmen getting out after settling in . The last 5-7 games had just went below the trail . :( :( :(

Other than that , we loved enjoying cricket here especially in the first half . Players like Maxwell & Shakib had won us games single-handedly TBH ...........

Our team enjoyed your smooth running of the event , @Na Maloom Afraad !!!! :cheers

Yes!!!! One more to go guys, one more game to go! Come on we can do it!

Warner showing what showing faith in your players can do. When he was struggling for runs initially, MSD kept backing him and we kept persisting with him and here he is now winning us knockout games with these amazing knocks! I am grateful we have such a bowling lineup and look Kagiso, they did it for you man!

It was amazing to see Rajpoot and Tahir doing so well as it isn't easy coming in the semi final and delivering. Shaheen Afridi has been a star for us, he has got wickets and got them regularly and that is why we are here! Jadeja is such an asset to have and MSD played a special one today.

I have always said we have a very balanced XI and if we play to our potential we can do wonders. Our Indian players are all very young and have taken up their respective responsibilities brilliantly so far. And imagine what could be the case if the whole team played to their potential! A trophy is all I can imagine...

When we began this journey we had set 3 goals for us. First was to get to the top 4, then into the final. We have achieved 2 of these. Now the 3rd one is to lift that beautiful trophy! I know we have all the ingredients to do it, hopefully we do it! Come on guys, one final time!

Martin Guptill :os:
David Warner :os:
Nitish Rana ^
Ankit Bawne
MS Dhoni :c: :wk:
Dhruv Shorey
Ravindra Jadeja ^
Washington Sundar ^
Kagiso Rabada :os: ^
Navdeep Saini ^
Shaheen Afridi :os: ^

As I said then when I posted this XI after we had lost 5 games on the trot in the beginning, this is going to be our winning XI! Let's go out there and make history guys, let's do it! MSD is a special leader and this is a special group of players and we all know they have been outstanding as it has been virtually knockout matches for them for the past 11 games. We have won 10 out of the last 11 games and here we are now in the finale. Let's give it all we have got.

Mitchell Starc strikes! He gets his first wicket of the game, courtesy of a blinder from Jason Roy. He dives to his left and holds onto a one-handed catch at mid-on.
Nitish Rana perishes after scoring only four off eleven deliveries, succumbing under the pressure of a big game. He fails against an intimidating bowling attack.

There's the big breakthrough for Kolkata! Amit Mishra picks up the wicket of the big fish, David Warner. An unconvincing shout, but the umpire raises his finger.
David Warner walks back after scoring 79 off 64 balls in a knock that's set the tone for Rajasthan's innings. Unfortunately for them, he falls short of his hundred.

Amit Mishra, you beauty! MS Dhoni unluckily inside-edges the ball back onto his stump attempting to block a wrong 'un. Rajasthan lose another crucial wicket.
Amit Mishra has picked-up two important wickets back-to-back. First he got rid of a well-set David Warner, then he neutralised the threat that is MS Dhoni.

Rajasthan moves past the 150-run mark with four wickets down. Their scoring rate is commendable, but they need a partnership to take them towards the end.
Losing a few more wickets before a solid partnership could deflate their innings completely. All eyes are now on Dhruv Shorey and Ankit Bawne; the local stars.

Mohammad Nabi with a timely strike puts Kolkata in control. Ankit Bawne had a fantastic season, but he fails to deliver when his team needed him the most.

Rajasthan had a glimmer of hope in Ravindra Jadeja, but that's been snatched away as well. He was playing cautiously alongside Navdeep Saini, his partner.
Probably looking to take his team into the last five overs without losing any more wickets, and then putting his foot on the pedal to finish off the innings.

Five! Wicket number five for Amit Mishra! Only the sixth five-wicket haul in the league's short history, and what a moment to achieve that. Take a bow, son!
Apart from Rajasthan's openers, no one really got going. Rajasthan crumbled against Kolkata's bowlers, only to be bowled-out on a below-par total of 227.

Rajasthan after opting to bat first, finish with a below-par total of 227. They were bowled-out within 46.0 overs after an unsatisfactory performance with the bat.
Martin Guptill and David Warner's 57-run opening-wicket stand got Rajasthan off to a good start. But after the two were dismissed, Rajasthan fell down face first.

David Warner peaked Rajasthan's innings with a brilliant 64-ball 79. After he was dismissed by Amit Mishra, Rajasthan started crumbling under the pressure.
They collapsed, losing their next 6 wickets for 61 runs. Ankit Bawne showed some fight, but he was soon overcome by an unexpected rival in Mohammad Nabi.

Ravindra Jadeja fought hard but he too, could not take his team to a respectable score. Amit Mishra claimed an impressive 5-fer. Finishing with 5/33 in 9.4 overs.
MS Dhoni has an uphill task of defending 228 against a batting line of such calibre. They've definitely got the bowlers to do it, but can they pull it off in actuality?

Below par total but it is runs on the board. And it is the big final! Anyone can crumble under pressure and it has been our bowlers mostly who have turned games in our favor. We have to put our hands up here and our bowlers need to do it for us one more time! Disappointing batting but as I have said, the pressure will be on them and not us. Let's do it guys!

Anything can happen in finals, but I think we got this. Awesome bowling there by Amit Mishra and a great effort to restrict them to 227 after a poor start with the ball.

Rajasthan are now 164/5. They need a strong partnership to take them to the end. The new batsman; Ravindra Jadeja is more than capable of achieving that.

Fourth wicket for Amit Mishra! Yet another case of the batsman inside-edging the ball straight onto his stumps because he could not intercept the wrong 'un.
Rajasthan are 199/8. This has been a major collapse, because at one point they were cruising. They were 138/2, but now they've lost 6 wickets for 61 runs.

Just one run off that over from Mitchell Starc. Rajasthan are 201/8 at the end of the 40th over. Ravindra Jadeja has the load of carrying his team to the finish now.
Ravindra Jadeja has all the right tools to strap a rocket to his team and play a sublime knock to take them to a competitive total against a formidable opposition.

What a start for Rajasthan! Just what they needed. A wicket in the very first over when defending a 228-run target is always going to be vital as a bowling side.
Shaheen Afridi provides Rajasthan with the crucial wicket of Jason Roy. A batsman that is capable of swinging the game in his team's favour singlehandedly.

An incredible throw from David Warner caught Virat Kohli short of the crease by a few inches as he was trying to sneak through for a single off Shaheen Afridi.

      Fifty for Joe Root

Joe Root brings up his 50! What a knock this has been! Under pressure, he's rescued his team from a near-collapse state and brought them closer to the win.
This was exactly the kind of innings Kolkata required. On the other hand, Rajasthan will be fuming at the fact that they could not capitalise on their early strikes.

Oh, dear! Joe Root has thrown it away! He was playing so well and had already achieved a fifty, but he has thrown his wicket, and potentially the match, away!
Chasing a wide delivery off Ravindra Jadeja's bowling, Joe Root edged it straight to the 'keeper. A simple catch for MS Dhoni, but a major setback for Kolkata.

At the end of the 30th over, Kolkata are 134/4. Dinesh Karthik is playing swiftly but Deepak Hooda has just come out to bat. These are hard times for Kolkata.
Virat Kohli will be disappointed with how successful Rajasthan has been in mitigating Kolkata. They now need 94 runs to win, and they've got 6 wickets left.

Six from Dinesh Karthik! A display of instincts, raw power and brutality from Dinesh Karthik as he smashes Washington Sundar for a massive six over mid-on.
All of Kolkata's hopes now lie on this man. The equation is fairly simple and in favour of Kolkata, as long as they don't succumb to the pressure of the final.

Breakthrough for Rajasthan! David Warner holds onto a difficult catch in the outfield to ensure Deepak Hooda's dismissal that Kagiso Rabada beautifully set-up.

Dinesh Karthik moves to his fifty with a single that followed a six. Kolkata now requires 68 runs from 88 deliveries. Totally achievable, but quite difficult.
Kolkata only has 4 wickets remaining, so they are going to play very cautiously. It'll stifle their scoring rate, and Rajasthan will look to capitalise on that.

What a six! Dinesh Karthik is playing the innings of his life. Over mid-wicket, the six was majestic. Despite it, only seven runs came off that over.
Rajasthan desperately need wickets. The wicket of Dinesh Karthik will be the game for them, but getting his partners has to be mandatory for them.

Game changer! Navdeep Saini might've just picked-up the most important wicket in the entire tournament. Dinesh Karthik is frustrated. He's fuming.
Dinesh Karthik edged the delivery straight back to Navdeep Saini who held onto a simple catch and get rid of him. A gritty fight comes to a close.

Navdeep Saini conceded more runs in that over than his team would've liked him to, but he also managed to get the big wicket of Dinesh Karthik.
Kolkata needs 11 runs from 12 deliveries. Can Kolkata's tail push them over the finishing line, or will Rajasthan's bowlers prevail once again?

Edged... and gone! Mohammad Shami did not know how to play that one. MS Dhoni holds onto a difficult catch as Kolkata's dreams fall apart!
Shaheen Afridi has struck at such an apt moment for his team. Rajasthan are now just one wicket away from the Indian One-Day Championship.

What a shot! Bhuvneshwar Kumar has muscled that one! Shaheen Afridi can not believe it. Kolkata inch ever so close to the win with that.
Do Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Amit Mishra still have fight left in them? Can they pull off a miraculous win for Kolkata? Just 6 needed off 9 now.

And Rajasthan wins! What a win it is! What a game. Two wickets in the same over from Shaheen Afridi have destroyed Kolkata's last hopes.
Kolkata failed by such a painfully narrow margin as Rajasthan steal the inaugural Indian One-Day Championship by a margin of just 5 runs.

Heist of the century for Rajasthan! A fantastic game to cap-off a fantastic tournament. Rajasthan win a thriller to claim the championship.
They started their campaign poorly, losing their first five games. But MS Dhoni persisted with the same players and got his team on track.

They went onto win eleven out of their next twelve games, including all three of their play-offs. This was a classic underdog story for them.
Rajasthan picked themselves up after a losing streak and went onto ever so slightly qualify for the play-offs, then beat everyone in their path.

Which included beating Kolkata twice. Probably the strongest team on-paper, and definitely the most dominant team throughout the season.
Kolkata topped the ladder in during the regular season, and were the first to qualify for the final. Also hosting the final at their homeground.

RAJASTHAN WIN THE INAUGURAL INDIAN ONE-DAY CHAMPIONSHIP

MS Dhoni has another shiny addition to his trophy cabinet. Virat Kohli on the other hand, will be really disappointed that his team fell short.
It was a success for Virat Kohli on a personal note, as he was adjudged as the Player of the Tournament. He was the third-highest run-scorer.

Only by a mere margin of twenty-one runs, though. He was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for his batting as well as his captaincy.
Ruturaj Gaikwad of Delhi was the leading run-scorer and the recipient of the Golden Bat for scoring 798 runs in 14 innings, with 8 fifties.

One of the main reasons for Rajasthan's rebound and eventual success was their bowling. Their bowling was spearheaded by Shaheen Afridi.
He ended up being the leading wicket-taker of the season, with 29 scalps to his name. Just one more than his counterpart - Kagiso Rabada.

OMG! OMG! OMG!

YESSSSSSS!!!!!!

We did it, we have pulled off a miracle here against that kind of batting and as I said before runs on the board matter in such big games. Our bowling unit deserves all the credit for this, Shaheen Afridi and Kagiso Rabada, you two beauties! Ravindra Jadeja always chipping in and always being there while Saini and Sundar keeping things tight and nice in the middle. I can't believe we did this but the feeling was always there.

This win shows what one can achieve if you keep hanging in there. We always had the sword hanging over our neck but we always came out victorious. Pathan got injured, Rabada had to sit out in the semi final which meant Ankit Rajpoot played his first match of the tournament in the semi final. Then not much runs on the board in the final and against the strongest batting lineup in the league and still we come out on the top! Hats off to the team, hats off to our captain!

This has to be the sweetest win for me personally as a manager and I would like to thank my co manager @Life Warrior for believing in me after those 5 matches. It was very tough to make guys like Rayudu and Suryakumar Yadav sit on the bench and bring in Bawne and Shorey. These young guns did not disappoint one bit. We won as a team collectively and were never dependant on 1 or 2 players. That is the strength of this squad. Players like Alex Carey and Imran Tahir too should be thanked as being the senior foreign players, they always lifted up the team from the bench.

Lastly, a huge and hearty thanks to @Na Maloom Afraad for hosting this wondefully organised league as it was the league I have enjoyed the most here on PC. Brilliantly done mate, well done! Also tough luck to @VC the slogger and @The Deadman for the loss guys. I hope we play one more final next time too and hope it is as competitve as this one was.

YESSSS!!!!

We won :)
I still can't believe it, what a nail biting match it was.
All thanks to @User2010 to find best playing XI and @Na Maloom Afraad to run such a wonderful league and way he posted the game it was too thrilling and awesome.
Thanks everyone will meet in next season.

A tournament of thrilling matches that one. Bit dissapointed that we didn't make it to the Finals but from the sidelines it looked an absolute nail-bitter of an end to the tournament. You have organised this league brilliantly and it was probably the best leagues of all @Na Maloom Afraad . Great work and contribution from you throughout the league.
