I can understand Chennai struggling, they carry too many liabilities in the XI but why is Mumbai struggling. Their squad looks alright.

Rohit's batting average is only 27 in the last four years.
MI had a decent batting lineup and they were winning so no one ever questioned Rohit's batting.
But their batting looks weak this year.

• Lack of depth
• Pollard's poor form
• Brevis and Tilak are inexperienced

So, their batting mostly relies on Rohit, SKY, and Ishan and they will continue to lose like this if Rohit won't perform.

Their fast bowlers are run machines.

They've not really replaced de Kock's batting though, whatever Stoinis does and Trent Boult.
The Tim David situation is odd. He's basically a six hitting machine, like Kieron Pollard. Mahela would know this, he had him briefly at Southern Brave and they retained him. But he was dropped after facing 11 balls. Tymal Mills at Brave too so Mahela should know his strengths and weaknesses. All that suggests, to me, maybe Rohit doesn't fancy the players they've signed. That's my conspiracy until I'm proved otherwise.

Jofra is awesome and paired with Bumrah that's almost eight overs of prime T20 bowling. But if you sign him on the understanding he probably won't play then you sign players who will. I think they probably went in expecting it wouldn't be a winning season but I think they thought that'd mean the title not all matches.

I think the only answer to their woes is to pick Arjun Tendulkar.

Rohit Sharma is the 3rd highest run scorer in all-time IPL and averages 34 with a SR of 132-odd in T20Is. Had India not been having Kohli, he would by far be the best limited overs batter in the country. Plus he has won 5 titles as Captain! He adds more value to the side than most of the players have done!

Also I don't know whether this is the case but if you are undermining Kishan since he is a subcontinent batter than it would be unfair on him. Nobody questioned de Kock last season when he struggled? If we have players of similar calibres then why not invest on local talent than use an Overseas spot?

I don't understand their strategy behind Arjun Tendulkar but there are better players than him in the squad.

People tend to have that sort of over reaction because they don't have patience for the process to unfold. They just need to calm down and trust the scouting unit.

I said Kishan was uniquely inform - see the chart. He's got an above average strike rate and massively above average average. I think he's a great player so I don't know why you're trying to insinuate I am undermining him because he's from the subcontinent when I'm doing the opposite.

Mumbai's top seven, which could be argued was the best of any team, including national sides, has been left with three big holes (de Kock, Stoinis, Hardik. Stoinis and de Kock has over 400 T20 matches, they've filled those with a couple of teenagers who have about 20 matches between them and Ramandeep Singh who averages 13 at a strike rate of 124. No problem with giving youth a chance but you can't make up for experience.

As for Rohit, he's almost 35, same age as Finch and Morgan who people are saying might be finished. I'd say could apply the same to him but I guess that'd be unfair because he's a subcontinent batter.

Why not drop SKY and have Raina because he is the 4th highest run-scorer in all-time IPL and averages 30 with a SR of 135 in T20Is?
