General Cricket Discussion

Have you been before?
No, I haven't. The year I came, the Sixes were non existent and had been discarded for a few years already.

In terms of a restart- Originally should have happened right after COVID, but Hongkong was pretty strict on some rules back then. They were also going back and forth between relaunching the Sixes and looking at expanding their T20 league.

Anyhow, missed this time, but would love to go for sure though!

Modern cricket really lacks 72 mph thunderbolts
It shows how far things have progressed. It's not uncommon to see most associates teams with at least a couple of 80mph/130kph + bowlers nowadays (even Uganda have three). Back then it was probably only Ireland that had guys (Rankin, Langford-Smith) bowling consistently at that pace. Then you've got the likes of Collingwood, Bopara, Styris, Oram. Benny Howell was born 15 years too late.

There's still a place for it imo. During one of the county streams I was watching in the summer, I had an interesting discussion with the commentator (via the comments section) about the importance of a point of difference bowler as opposed to an entire attack bowling 78 mph.

He suggested that if a 78mph bowler didn't have the physical capacity to bowl quicker, then to give themselves a point of difference they should consider bowling slower, and he cited Benny Howell, Steven Mullaney and Ravi Bopara as examples.

Has anyone read any of the extracts of Jimmy Anderson's book in The Times?

His Ghost Writer is an absolute numpty. So overwritten - totally overwrought, overblown confected pseudo literary nonsense, not remotely in Jimmy's voice. I'd have 100% bought the book, but not now.

what a disgrace it was, btw, that Ireland wouldn't get test status for another 10 years after that.
