India Team Discussion

Well Gaikwad not selected again maybe he has to move on in life now

He like thousands of other Indian domestic players, will make peace with the fact that they might never don national colours consistently. Fortunately for Gaikwad, he has CSK and IPL behind him and he is the captain there! Even if his international career does not go anywhere, he could end up an IPL legend (if he maintains his performances in IPL and stays with CSK for long), earn solid money from IPL and retire happily into coaching areas.

Gaikwad doesn't fit into the team at the moment. Why is it difficult to understand that if selected, he will simply be a passenger during the series?

With Rohit and Virat in the side, there's no way they could have selected him.

It's mind blowing that India will play only 3 ODIs in 2024. 3 games in a 12-month period

Appointment of Bumrah as vice-captain should hopefully put a stop to the theories of Kohli or Unworthy KLR leading in Rohit's absence during the NZ/Aus series.

It is a step in the right direction and hopefully they persist with the appointment, unlike the previous regime which played musical chairs with everyone.

Interesting times ahead in Indian Cricket.

Especially in all red ball cricket with two big overseas tour coming (Aus next month and England next year) and all senior players on their last leg - Kohli, Sharma, Ashwin , Jadeja and Shami with the likes of Pujara and Rahane already out of mix, the transition phase is something which will have to see how it goes for the Team.

Possibility of a repeat of 2011-2012 period where a series of losses in Australia and England and a home series lost vs England.

And somewhat I feel GG is not the right person to be in the mix of things going through this phase.

Post next CT 25 Rohit Sharma might skip Tests captaincy or even Tests.

Mukesh McGrath Kumar with 6 wickets vs Australia A.

In the reserve for the main squad, Reckon he should be in the main squad especially for the games in SCG or MCG or even Adelaide.

That's a good game going on there. Typical Indian 1st morning response. Someone ought to have stood tall among the batsmen though. Mukesh and Prasidh, seem to be on target here. If only the batters can show a little spine now.

Might not be a white wash- our team still is strong. I am expecting a 2-1 to Australia here, with victories for them in the first 2 games and India clinching the Sydney test. Also, do not rule out the possibility of them drafting in Pujara and Rahane towards the end here. The transition will happen and will happen partially during the next home series. I see the batting consolidating itself around Yashaswi Jaiswal and SK Khan. While I had high hopes from Gill, he has so far disappointed me with this temperament, might be good for the shorter format, but yet to set the stage on fire.

I disagree here- any coach would have faced the same. Point to note- we end up playing too much cricket. If you compare Gambhir with Shastri or Dravid, the support staff under GG is better than it ever was. Abhishek Nayar has been lauded by many Indian cricketers and is regarded well in the domestic circles. Morkel and RTD have played a lot more cricket than say the likes of Rathour/Arun/former fielding coach etc. Irrespective of the coach, this would have happened.

Don't need to look that far. The Aussie assignment will be his last as a Test captain, In the next home series, he will announce his retirement from the format and let Bumrah take over.

Note that he is expected to miss 1/2 games in Australia. Now, if Bumrah somehow marshalls the team to a victory there, the writing will be on the wall for Rohit. either way, he will go- if we win, he goes out on a high. If we lose, the media wont spare him. Anyway, I feel he is more suited to limited overs cricket in general+ his captaincy is excellent for that format. Matter of time before we have Boom taking over. TBH, Boom vs Cummins, nice match- up.

Shaw career went down hill from this
I am genuinely interested in knowing the Shaw story here. He is the current generation's Vinod Kambli-per his antics. When in full flow though, he is a delight to watch. Sometimes, people simply need a holding hand- some people need a little more care than others. Could be one of those cases. And before anyone jumps to- he ought to be mature, maybe he hasnt gotten access to things that others usually had. Do really wish he comes back strong as his game is quite good for him to be left out.

Perth Test match seems to have opened a Pandora's box here- in terms of captaincy. Cricinfo and Cricbuzz commentary + X buzzing with why Bumrah should continue over Rohit as the captain for the rest of the series. Need the opinions of fellow PC'ers here.

I feel the scenario is a bit similar to 2014 when Kohli stood in for one game instead of MSD. With a fresh mindset, his moves seemed more aggressive than those of Dhoni's (they were in reality). A similar scenario is shaping up in Perth as well. Bumrah seems fresh instead of a jaded Rohit. (both Rohit and MSd had led India to a series whitewash vs NZ & Eng respectively)

My personal opinion- I like what I have seen of Bumrah. However, would advocate against making this change during the current BGT. Rohit might just be in the role for 4 more more games. All said and done, better to respect Rohit for what he has done for the team, unless he himself wants to give up.

Bumrah- long term or Post BGT: Yes, definitely, but we need to bear in mind he is a fast bowler and may not play all games. He can be an option, but perhaps at the cost of him giving up T20I in order to save himself for the rigours of the longer format. With Bumrah in the seat, we need a capable deputy who can step in when needed.

Barring a miraculous series win in Australia, I think it's time India looked beyond Kohli and Rohit in Tests. Unfortunately, the demi god stature of these two might prohibit BCCI from taking bold steps.

The England tour is another 6-7 months away, so I've feeling even a debacle in the current series won't affect their selection.

Personally, I would rather have these two concentrate on ODIs now and let the Test team transition. What worst can happen? We are anyhow getting dismissed for 150 scores consistently now.
