Draft: Budget Draft: Bargain Hunt

Jack Cheetham is a steal at just 3 points (62 points remain). While his Test career might not seem that great, he is backed up by his First Class record here.

I will pick :eng: :bat: Plum Warner on behalf of @CerealKiller.

:eng: :bat: "Plum" Warner

622 runs @ 23.92 (best 132*, 1 century) from 15 Test matches
29,028 runs @ 36.28 (best 244, 60 centuries) from 521 first-class matches

The Grand Old Man of English cricket left behind him a legacy that far surpassed his mere numbers. As a batter, he was merely excellent: although he carried his bat for an unbeaten 132 on his Test debut in a match where only one other batter made over 40, his form at Test level really tailed off thereafter to the extent that he averaged under 10 across the second half of his career. Curiously, his first thirteen Tests were away from home, and it wasn't until his very last game that he finally got to play a Test at his beloved Lord's Cricket Ground.

However, Warner's true legacy was as a cricket statesman: he was one of the game's first great authors, journalists and administrators, leaving vast shoes to fill in all three fields. It's no coincidence that he has a vast stand named after him at Lord's, nor that he has one of the longest Cricinfo profiles I've ever seen.

CerealKiller's XI so far:

It’s easy to overlook Fred Grace, because he bagged a pair in his only test and didn’t take a wicket. But he died 2 weeks later, otherwise he’d have almost certainly improved on that bad start.

A genuine all rounder and genuine fast bowler, he costs nothing and tenatively sits at number 7 for now, bowling first change if the rest of my team develops as I hope.

This is an absolutely bonkers first five players for just seven points. Really impressive drafting
Thanks. I really expected Fred Grace to go already… if Ben Hollioake hadn’t gone, I might have risked one more pick before going for him. But I’m glad I got him!
