16 Team County League with added streaming

So this has still been going on so am gonna share some screenies. I have played every game so far...

So, the Glamorgan game finished thusly

Desktop Screenshot 2020.04.21 - 10.46.58.95.png

Got really close towards the end as Glammy did the 4th innings chase down and Marnus (surprise, surprise )being the big pain in the arse. Glad to squeeze home in this one.

Next came Durham...

Desktop Screenshot 2020.04.21 - 10.47.13.35.png

Ben Stokes was a big pain as I couldn't get him out at all. An unbeaten century from Browne-o got us the lead before Siddle and Porter gave us a small chase despite Stokes. Stokes tried to make us wobble but we saw it home with 7 wickets to spare. Bloody Ben Stokes man...

Next up was Sussex away...

Desktop Screenshot 2020.04.21 - 10.47.24.65.png

A decent bat first performance with Browne unbeaten again and a century for Dan Lawrence. Sam Cook enjoyed bowling at Arundel but was outshone by Sids in the first and Ports in the second as our seamers restricted them enough to never really make it a contest especially as their seamers were pretty wayward. A good whack from everyone in our second (anchored by Browne, who else) set up the declaration and David Wiese couldn't quite emulate Stokes.

Surrey then and their army of Englishmen were up next...

Desktop Screenshot 2020.04.21 - 10.47.35.26.png

Browne and Lawrence continued their hot streaks, the Currans didn't want to show up the other's batting so picked an innings each to shine (Sam Curran trying to Stokes me). Bowling was less dependent on Ports as Simon Harmer came to the party in the first innings and Sam Cook took a 5fer to give us a 167 run win.

Worcestershire were game five so a trip to New Road awaited for us to make it five in a row...

Desktop Screenshot 2020.04.21 - 10.47.42.05.png

They were never in it TBQH. Browne anchored again but it was nice to see Varun steer us home in the 4th as he has not had the best of starts this season. Adam Wheater has been proving quite useful down the order to steady things as we've had a few collapses now and then. Ravi is yet to really come to the party with the bat as well so I want to see that going forward. Bowlers all working in sync though and are keeping us well on top.

Onto the next four games then and we start by welcoming Yorkshire to the County ground...

Desktop Screenshot 2020.04.21 - 10.47.49.83.png

Ravi came to the party big style supporting the unstoppable Browne as all the top order finally clicked. We absolutely ran through them in the first innings with Cooky claimning his second 5fer of the season. With us so far ahead I didn't bat long in the third and allowed Varun to grab his 50 before battling hard to prise out the Yorkies in the 4th innings as they went all Gandalf. Probably the most thumping win to date.

Off to Trent Bridge next and Notts are the hosts...

Desktop Screenshot 2020.04.21 - 10.48.06.98.png

And we basically repeated the Yorkshire game with Browne and Bops doing their duties again. Notts at least proved more difficult to dislodge but Tom Westley gave us a big cushion in the second and Notts couldn't keep us out. Another big win and another big bat first performance.

Somerset were the next team to face the 100% Essex boys at the County Ground.

Desktop Screenshot 2020.04.21 - 10.48.18.28.png

Batting was very difficult in this one with Steve Davies top scoring and some rare Browne failures but if the batting fails the bowling still gets us out of trouble with a massive Jamie Porter performance giving us a strong win as both opening bowlers claimed 14 out of the 20 Somerset wickets. A formidable partnership.

The Estuary Derby is the last match for now with us travelling to Kent to try and make it 9 in a row...

Desktop Screenshot 2020.04.21 - 10.48.28.81.png

Browne back on form with a century after Joe Denly near enough single-handedly took Kent to a decent first innings total with a little bit of support from Sam Billings. It was a decent lead we took but Kent collapsed in the face of Simon Harmer who finally claimed a 5fer and actually batted well for the first time as well so he claimed the MotM. Varun leaped back from a golden duck in the first to steer us home by 10 wickets. The bandwagon keeps on rolling.

To the league table then. First of all the bottom half...

Some big counties at the bottom with Surrey and the English boys really struggling waiting until game 7 for their first win. Glamorgan, despite running us close in game one, have been poor too. Lancs have arrested their slump and Somerset are plummeting after a good early season showing. Guess we really knocked them out of their stride. Gloucs will be delighted to be so far away from the relegation zone so far while Notts and Warks will be disappointed to be so mid-table.

Obviously we are top but take a look at Derbyshire who are matching us blow for blow in the run for the title. The game against them is gonna be huge. Durham, Middlesex, Hants and Yorkshire all have 6/9 so are clearly the best of the rest and Kent are clearly lacking the consistency to make it into the top six.

Great to see you're still doing this. Lovely work.
Looks like you're going strong at the top with a lot of big wins. The game against Glammy must've been exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. Sure you were glad to get away with that one. :p

Wowiee! Top of the league. Looks like you have been very dominant with the bat and in hand piling on the runs whilst also having clinical bowlers chipping in and taking the poles. It looks like the oppositions run rate isn’t at 4 and over and actually looks very life like which is encouraging. Derbyshire have gone 9 unbeaten as well so that could well be the title decider. Browne batting long and scoring runs really helps allow your more expansive batsman to have a crack and get the scores up to declaration totals. Definitely snuck that first one in but the rest seem to be very convincing without a whole load of trouble. Well done and keep up the winning streak.

Finally, for now, let's look at some stats. First of all how are the Essex boyz performing?

Batting Essex.png

Batting wise the top order are really doing some good work with Westley, Bopara and Lawrence all averaging in the 40s and that'll be coz they are the only other guys (apart from Browne) with hundreds this season grabbing two each. Adam Wheater also is averaging a smidge over 40 which is pretty decent considering he bats at 7 and has 5 50s to his name. Most disappointed will be Chops and Tendo who have struggled at times this season with only 3 50s to their name and averaging in the low 20s. Simon Harmer can bat but hasn't (until the Kent game where he got that 61) delivered much of note. More expected from him please. The tail, has been the tail. Weirdly Westley has been our most prolific six hitter followed by Bops who has been the king of dealing in 4s. Ravi's strike rate is pretty juicy too.

Bowling Essex.png

Bowling wise Porter has been leading the attack well with Sam Cook absolutely chipping in as well. They're quite the opening pair. Tendo, will again be slightly disappointed by his returns but his bowling is a lot better than his batting. Ravi has chipped in with 12 useful wickets as well with Westley and Lawrence part-timing their way to a handy few too.

How does this compare with the rest of everyone?

Desktop Screenshot 2020.04.21 - 11.27.43.49.png

Nick Browne may not go Daddy but he just churns 'em out scoring 190 runs more than Somerset's Steve Davies who tops the batting averages of those who aren't a God. Loving the number of balls faced compared to everyone else but Browne's strike-rate is probably a little high so it's something he'll have to work on. Marnus on the list despite Glamorgan's low position is a testament to his raging against the dying of the light. Telling that between the top two, who haven't lost a game all season, there is only Browne in the top batsmen list. Food for thought...

Desktop Screenshot 2020.04.21 - 11.27.50.93.png
The top two have one bowler each in the top bowlers with Ports currently 3rd in the wicket-taking list and Matt Critchley popping his head up too. Trevaskis and Crane showing why Durham and Hants are top 6 material while Bew Twohig is probably the other surprising or interesting name up there.

So there we have it. After 9 games the stats leaders play for most of the 3rd-6th teams while the top two are just going quietly about their jobs.

Session 1 then and we won the toss and bowled on a soft, dry pitch that was worn.

They got off to a flyer with big Keats and Alex taking a liking to Ports and Little Chef but even if you slap him around Ports will always get you in the end. After that my change bowlers dried the runs up and while former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann dug in Jones, Livingstone and Vilas came and went as Siddle and Bops got amongst it. Buttler has joined Crazy Jens and could do some good work but from 65/1 we have come roaring right back. Lancs will be disappointed.

Ports and Cook were given some tap but the wickets our spearhead got were key as it allowed Siddle to have one of his best bowling performances to date as he squeezed and squeezed. The bonus Bops wicket has put us right in it and Harmer looked very dangerous before lunch... noses very definitely in front.

What a stupid session...

That's right, 38 runs from 30 overs. What a session. Jens went early to Harmer and then when Jos went it was all over. The squeeze happened but Jimmy is at least keeping the dream alive.

The economy rates say it all don't they. Seems a tailor made pitch for Browne though.

Tweaking Jimmy Anderson...

No stopping Jim as he powered to a top score in the innings while Matt Parkinson showed more staying power than the rest of the team. Annoying but a decent showing overall to get them out for 218.

Ports will be disappointed to be over 3 and Cook will be pleased to snaffle the last wicket.

5 overs of reply and Chops went 6 and out. Disappointing from him.

A lot of work ahead for these boyz tomorrow but Mahmood will be happy with the early wicket.

Jimbo making a fine score but those economy rates are superb! Westley bowling more than Bopara hmmm interesting one but at Sussex we are happy to see him join a star studded t20 side.

Only coz the spin was doing some stuff and I felt like a spinner in the late ball overs was more likely to get a wicket. So sad to see Ravi go tho

Oh yeah completely fair enough Harmer is an absolute beast - South Africa have missed one there. Yeah Ravi is an interesting one because down here we heard that he had agreed the contract in the middle of last season with Sussex at the time where he wasn’t playing or something like that. Then he played in he Blast and it was like watching a guy with a point to prove a man possessed even if putting him as a finisher was right or wrong it seemed to work well. Be interesting to see where he plays for us can’t see him bowling too much so might be a handy batter and experienced head for skipper Brown.
