Miandad rescues Pakistan yet again, Malik digs in too
It was hard to make out the middle from the outfield at Adelaide today and Pakistan raised several eyebrows when they opted to bat on a speedsters paradise with England featuring 5 quick and one Slow medium bowler in their line up. Miandad was seen convincing Imran Khan as pictured below to opt for batting but Imran Khan went with his tactical thinking and although it looked a blunder it has paid off thanks to some very good batting from Miandad and Salim Malik.
Derek Pringle tore into Pakistani top order first to bowl out the debutant Zahid Fazal playing in place of Rameez Raja off the very first over. The ball pitch on off seamed and took the leg stump. Last match hero for Pakistan Aamir Sohail didn't do any better and was caught at gully by Botham for 4 off 11 balls.
In walked the young batting sensation Inzamam-ul-haq but walked back disappointed after only scoring just 1 runs thanks to an unplayable ball from C.Lewis. Inzamam edged the ball from Lewis to England captain Graham Gooch after having scored only 1 run. It looked like a debacle the decision to bat on this track when Pakistan were 3 down for only 6 runs but then Miandad and Malik had different plans.
They cut, drove, pulled and hooked England bowlers to score at a healthy run rate to see Pakistan in a fairly good postion at 116 for 3 after the first 25 overs. Miandad just reached his 50 off 78 balls and Malik is now 10 short of 50. Gooch has tried his best to get one of these guys out if not both but the luck has failed them so far. There were 3 to 4 edges but none carrying nor being directed towards any fielder.
Pakistan now will be looking to score over 220 and press home the advantage of setting an excellent score on a minefield such as this while England will be desperate to get quick wickets. England to have a chance in the game looks like they have to restrict Pakistan to under 200.
P.S : I am playing as England in this game and I will be bowling the first 25 overs then autoplaying the rest of the overs for both sides.
