1st Ashes Test Match - Reduced Skills. Full Playtest.

Im on the recent one edge is certainly there got it off my second delivery and dropped it dont know how long its going to be before the next one.

I meant the most recent patch that came out yesterday.. Perhaps he was wise to opt out..

I know and as I said people have been saying exactly the same about the patches previous to that, yet the edges were there. As Matt has just said in the patch thread, no changes have been made to AI batting.

Out of interest what do you have anticipation and consistency set at for the batsmen?

I have them set depending on their skills.. So lowest for Zimbabwean tail and a couple of notches up for their top order, and much higher for the Australian top order. So I think I cover the spectrum

do you slightly move the RS sideways like @wealey88 does when releasing the ball. Example : have inswing to LHB with RF and and at release slightly move it to say 6 th stump see how it goes.

You also need to mix it a little throw in a few full ones slower ones an d short ones from time to time.

By moving RS the way you said, are you trying to mean adjusting the line slightly? If yes, then I do that from time to time. For example, I bowl a few wide inswingers to a LHB arount 6-7th Stump line to get him across the stumps. Then bowl a Bouncer just outside off. Then another inswinger on middle-off line. I generally don't bowl really full deliveries. That is so because all the wickets that I've got from full deliveries were bowled around that 4m mark. But I get what you are saying. Will try it in next match.

Here's the one was using blocker's colt and Western province teams, but adjusted batmsna values to what @cook1st specified.

This is a 3 day game on PRO green hard work cracked pitch.

Simmed my team batting got 301 and the colts started batting at the end of the day and third ball had this lovely edge of a def prod to a slightly straight one after out swinger i think .

would have been cool if that catch was taken but think i appealed a bit in panic and that may have caused it to drop should probably use full assisted fielding.

I would try setting anticipation no higher than 14/15. What I am trialling at the moment is having minimum anticipation (11) for batsmen with a batting average below 20, then BatAv 20-30=12, 30-40= 13, 40-50=14, and 50+=15. Try that.

Consistency I haven't found to effect edge frequency, but feel that set higher leads to thicker edges especially those horrible ones from cut-shots that go over the keepers head.[DOUBLEPOST=1437726604][/DOUBLEPOST]

LOL, that's what happens when you haven't had an edge for a while.

I also take this approach also, I will bowl a yorker once in a while or the odd back of a full ball length one wide of off.

Love all this chat. So many people keen to get it spot on.

I think its important to remember that this could be a one off and my next match could be edgeless.

Ill be back on it today and what im wondering is. My next match do I do same pitch conditions etc. Or do i try and mix it up?

What I have found important is i almost give the AI an outlet if they need to score.

For example I field with a mid on but no mid off. What I find this tends to do is when the AI is under pressure and needing to score they will pump one through the mid off area. This stops them having no alternative and chipping one to the fielders.

If you share your teams we can find out if it's a one off or not.. I'm keen to test them out.

Im just reinstalling DBC 14 so I can go back to whatever version you are on.. Even opting out of the beta only took me back to 1.20.0

1.20.0 is what im on. Ill share them once im on which wont be long

What do people do as far as the left stick when they bowl?

Well subtle swing (up and left or up and right) designed to get the knick, the odd slower ball, the odd straight ball. One thing i haven't done a lot is shining the ball, and I never play in England.

During both of those innings. I did not bowl a single slower ball. I also only bowl fuller length deliveries to tail ender. 9 and below or a batsmen who has passed 75.

If i want a full ball i stop the needle before the green zone or just on it while using normal good length deliveries.

Reason for these little rules i set myself is i find the fuller balls result in the AI playing rash shots. I could be wrong but thats just the system i adopted.[DOUBLEPOST=1437728021][/DOUBLEPOST]What we dont get much of is the type of edges that we get when we bat. i have had ones scoot along the ground fly past slips etc.

If that could be replicated it would be spot on.

Also im keen to remind myself that not every dismissal needs to be an edge. i would be satisfied with 4 edges and a mixture of other genuine dismissals per innings roughly!

Oh for sure, I also don't care about chips to mid on and mid off, that happens in real life too, although admittedly too much in DBC.

Yes I was going to ask you about that. I bowl 2 full balls and over, and I hardly saw any on your videos.

All I am looking for is a variation in dismissal, a balance between bat and ball, and subtle difference in player ability. It looks like you are getting close

Agreed. Plus the catches I had straight down the ground were more drilled than chipped so thats fine by me.

Yeah I stay away of the designated full length delivery button. I used to find alot of the rash shots played in the air came from that.

THOUGHT!! I have forgotten to realise that during both those innings not a single weird cut over the slips was made!

I have started to do this as well, at first I was leaving mid-on open but they were scoring a lot of runs in this area so have decided to start leaving mid-off open to encourage the batsmen to play straighter. This should encourage edges, especially if you are bowling across the batsman.

As for slower balls I have probably bowled less than the fingers on my hands in the longer formats since playing DBC! Although I have used them to great effect in one-dayers. That's not to say they won't be effective, it's just not how I bowl.
