Performance and patriotism guided Israel to victory over Russia today.

If England play badly for a goalless draw next week, I stand by my statement that they do not deserve to qualify.

It's hard to be positive when a team has been playing mind-numbingly boring, unimaginative football for the last 2 years, have looked utterly hopeless during this Euro 2008 Qualifying campaign relying on others to fail for them to succeed and failing to dispose of supposedly 'weaker' sides so forgive me for being a little circumspect about their chances against the best side in the group.

Of course I'll always support them but I'll criticise them if they deserve and they definitely deserve it.

Well you could enjoy the fact we've just been given a lifeline instead of choosing now to criticise the players when they haven't even played. Sure we've been crap but until the managers sacked thats not going to change so we might as well back the lads.

Now? I've been criticising them for the last 2 years and rightly so.

I didn't say I wouldn't support them and I expect them to get at least a draw but I also expected them to beat Andorra, Macedonia...

Scotland were robbed with that laughable free-kick decision.

I never said you hadn't been criticising them before now but whats the point in doing it now? I never said you wouldn't support them but theres a difference betwee that and backing them, if we win against Croatia then great and theres no point complaining afterwards, nor is there any point complaining before the game. It's after the game where we should do it if the team lose or play badly.

They would be lucky to advance because they have been poor. Obviously, I hope they do but I'm not going to praise them unless they drastically improve or at least put in a solid performance.
