2011 World Cup Pre-Event Discussion

Need to clarify one thing if theres no reserve keeper in 15, and going into a match in few days time we know that Dhoni is injured, is there a rule not permitting Parthiv to come into the squad in place of Dhoni and keep wickets?

If Dhoni gets injured and is expected to be out of action for 2 matches, then India cannot pick a guy from the 30-man squad.
However, if Dhoni is completely ruled out of the World Cup, then India can replace him with a reserve keeper.

This is where you need a reserve. I think they may carry one around just like they did to Parthiv in South Africa 2003.

Check last 2 domestic seasons, Parthiv is our best option for a backup keeper.
KKD is such a fail at INT. level and he had done nothing to be picked ahead of Patel.

Except of course opening successfully in England and South Africa in the test scene, being an excellent wicket keeper and fielder through the years...hmm.

Parthiv Patel is the worst keeper in India.

Just wondering how hard it would be for ZZ and for USER during WC game 1. :p Shouldn't be too hard, buts still, they are probably one of the hardcore Bangla fan I know.

Parthiv is a better batsman than Karthick and seeing him fail at INT. level for a 1 and a half year, I'd have Parthiv in my team. Also he has improved his keeping a lot.

Not seen this mentiond yet. These 30 man squads dont really mean much. But i dont know how they managed to include Darren Stevens & not pick Peter Trego.

Plus its a damn shame Napier isn't their againn. Although i can sort of understand this since i dont see him playing domestic cricket in NZ currently which probably means he hasn't recovered from his back injury in time.

My ENG Final 15 based on this:

Strauss
Kieswetter/Davies
Trott/Bell
KP
Colly
Morgan
Yardy
Bresnan
Swann
Broad
Anderson

CK/SD
Trott/Bell
Patel
Shazad/Tremlett

Anybody wins, I'll be happy. I support Bangladesh so I'll be pretty pleased if they manage to beat India. On the other hand, if India wins I'll be still happy as my country won but a bit sad for the tigers.

Revenge time :p

it's hard not to fail when you are opening one game, playing at 3 the next and coming in at 7 after that. He was never given a solid shot and even if he did it was in a random, make shift position. I think he has done pretty well for everything he has gone through TBH.

What if we have to end up playing the reserve keeper as a batsman? Parthiv won't fare as well in the lower order while KKD can, and PP's fielding is atrocious (worse than his WKing, believe it or not) while KKD is athletic and quite electric at times in the field.

I reckon Saha will get the call...blegh. PP better not, 2 ODIs after like 7 years in domestic cricket and he is in the WC squad?!

Let's see. Bangladesh will be pretty tough to beat at home. I'll be supporting both though with neutral reactions.

Nah, I would like to see us beat them. Don't think that I am anti-Bangla but just that the upset during the WC 2007 has had a long lasting impact.

^^ Your nick has Shakib Al Hasan written all over it.

ICEMAN. ICYMAN, same difference.
