2011 World Cup Squad Prediction Thread

I am amazed as to how they have recalled Hafeez and retained Kamran Akmal. Muhammad Hafeez is a failure at international level. He averages below twenty at a strike rate of 57. Thats below average for some one who is selected as batsman who can bowl.

BJ Watling
Kane Williamson

Gareth Hopkins
Brendon McCullum

Grant Elliott
Nathan McCullum
Jacob Oram
Scott Styris
Daniel Vettori

Andy McKay

TBH I can't really see room for both Watling and Williamson, so one of them would probably have to be the "16th" man, and the unluckiest player not to make it.

If we have everyone fit, we should be able to get to another semi-final, then of course get knocked out.

Playing XI:

1. Jesse Ryder
2. Brendon McCullum (wk)
3. Martin Guptill
4. Ross Taylor
5. Grant Elliott
6. Scott Styris
7. Jacob Oram
8. Daniel Vettori (c)
9. Kyle Mills
10/11. Two of; Nathan McCullum, Andy McKay, Tim Southee, Daryl Tuffey

Bench:

One of; BJ Watling/Kane Williamson
Gareth Hopkins
Two of; Nathan McCullum, Andy McKay, Tim Southee, Daryl Tuffey

I'd say that Elliott's place rests on his form in the upcoming series. I'd say it'd be one of Watling, Williamson and Elliott that'll miss out.

Grant Elliott should be there, and I hope he is.
He hasn't really done anything wrong, and if it wasn't from his injury his place would more than likely be 100% secure.
Yes he has failed in his three innings this year, but last year he averaged 42 in 21 matches.

If he can't regain his form from last year though there's not much point taking him.

My Australia 15 man squad (Listed by role in the team, but by no particular order within that):

S.Marsh
R.Ponting
M.Clarke
C.White
M.Hussey

S.Watson
S.Smith
J.Hopes

B.Haddin

M.Johnson
R.Harris
N.Hauritz
D.Bollinger
S.Tait

Fifteenth member would depend on in what area (as in batting or bowling) we're struggling/lacking in at the time of the World Cup.

Spot on mate - that would be my 14 at this stage too. The 15th spot could go to a guy like Tim Paine for some keeping cover, or one of the older quick bowlers like Lee or Bracken depending how they fare this summer. Same for Callum Ferguson, if he comes back well there is definitely a spot to be had there. Plus there'll probably be someone who will get injured or there will be an unexpected standout of this coming summer and they'll get the 15th spot. A guy like Luke Pomersbach could be a dark horse or George Bailey or maybe a young up and coming fast bowler like Hazlewood or Pattinson.

Marsh new found versatility could get him the spot over Ferguson assuming we take a backup keeper. His knock at 5 was probably the best he has played for Australia, at opener he seems to take a bit too long to take off and then gets himself out before he can actually kick on. But with him in the side we have another opener which means we don't have to find a makeshift one, although if Paine is in the side then he could go straight in.

Probable England squad (if Flintoff does not make it)

1.Andrew Strauss
2.Steven Davies (WK)
3.Kevin Pietersen (if he can improve his current form)
4.Paul Collingwood
5.Eoin Morgan
6.Luke Wright
7.Craig Kieswetter / Alex Hales
8.Tim Bresnan
9.Jimmy Anderson
10.Stuart Broad
11.Graeme Swann
12.Ian Bell
13.Jonathan Trott / James Hildreth
14.Ravi Bopara / Jos Buttler
15.Danny Briggs / Michael Yardy
