2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup - India (UAE/Oman)

So finally some sense prevails in our squad selection!! Would've loved to have another pacer though. Also it's disappointing that Chahal isn't the part of our squad.

So coming to the Final XI according to me:-

1. Rohit Sharma :bat:
2. KL Rahul :bat:
3. Virat Kohli :c: :bat:
4. Suryakumar Yadav :bat:
5. Rishabh Pant :wkb:
6. Hardik Pandya :ar:
7. Ravindra Jadeja :ar:
8. Ravichandran Ashwin :bwl:
9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar :bwl:
10. Jasprit Bumrah :bwl:
11. Rahul Chahar :bwl:

How does this squad seem sensible? 5 spinners seems a bit too excessive to me. Axar is a cheap copy of Jadeja and Chahal would've been much much better than Chakaravarthy. Should've gotten Chahal in for Varun and Thakur or Natarajan in for Axar.

The best part about that squad is that MSD will be mentoring the side :D

In the last three years. For bowlers from test playing nations (that have bowled 200 balls in T20i) only Washington Sundar and Mohammad Nabi have worse averages than Yuzvendra Chahal.
In the last three years, the guy has played 50% of his matches in Australia and New Zealand (11 out of 22). Don't exactly expect him to go havoc there.

In case you forgot, he was the highest wicket taker among the spinners in the 2020 IPL in UAE, taking 21 wickets at an average of 19.

Also wow Picking Varun and Rahul over Kuldeep and Chahal.. we keep making blunders after blunder. I know both of them were not in good form but they are season experienced players who have played World Cups before.

Even in Asia, in the last three years, his average is only better than Sundar and Nabi. On top of that he has the worst economy rate of spin bowlers by some distance (8.82. Dockrell 8.36, Sundar 7.92 - the next worst).

I'm quite surprised he wasn't picked but statistically I can see why. They may feel Chakravarty also offers a lot more mystery than Chahal while the other bowlers offer more control.

I think Thakur is the unlucky one.

He is a middle overs spinner and was consistently given the new ball for some odd reason. What was important is that he gave us wickets!!!

5 spinners and 3 fast bowlers

I think Shardul should have been picked in place of Axar.

The rest squad is fine. Chahal has been dropped because we have Rahul Chahar who is doing better job than him right now. Ashwin is back in the T20 team because Sundar is not available.

Chahal took only 11 wickets in the last 14 T20Is. His economy was more than 8 in all those matches.

Only 4 wickets 7 matches of IPL 2021.

Only 4 wickets in IPL 2021 at an average of 47.5 :)
