2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup - India (UAE/Oman)

ENGLAND WC Squad

Last time I saw Tymal Mills he was in RCB leaking runs.
Mills was excellent in The Hundred.

Chris Woakes AND David Willey picked.

No Tom Curran.

Good squad, considering those who are unavailable. :cheers

Vince redemption. Meanwhile SA have announced their squad. No Faf, Tahir or Morris. Linde in the reserves list, which is an absolute joke.

Idiotic to the f********core! Every damn time we have an ICC tournament, the selection will be screwed up to extents unamiginable.

What's great about this? If anything, it opens up a pandora's box. The fact that this team requires a mentor, in itself , needs to be probed.

Wasn't Kohli faffing around recently that Shastri is the best man to have managed the team? Then, why on earth do you need a mentor?

That too MSD- a person who has been out of sync with the vagaries of modern day cricket. To me, MSD's inclusion means the team reverts to its ultra defensive T20 approach and will start taking games to the last over.

I won't be surprised if we crash out in the 1st round itself.

There has to always be a 'Vijay Shankar' moment! Varun, Ashwin will probably not get games. You also forgot 3 keepers which makes no sense whatsoever. KLR has been keeping wickets and was assumed he is your back up to Pant. So, why do you need Kishan in the scheme of things?

He won't get a game!

I am awaiting for the BCCI to announce Suresh Raina as a back up mentor very soon!

Really pissed with this! Hope we lose, Hope we crash out! I am done supporting this 'India' under Kohli- shall Back the Blackcaps now!

A mentor is not likely to exert that much of an influence to make the side change their approach drastically. This team (more so Kohli-Shastri) have not shown any inclination to take games deep and they'll likely give him a respectful ear, but will play the way they think is best. A mentor is just a sounding board, someone that you can go up to and ask for inputs/suggestions. I am pretty confident that Dhoni won't be a guy who will try to impose himself. He is the last person in the world to do that! P.s: Taking games deep hasn't become that "old fashioned" yet and probably might never be, as long as you've an opposition that can crack up under pressure. I dont enjoy it much as a fan (leads to dramatic rise in anxiety levels), but it could still have its equal share of adopters in modern day cricket.

On Kishan - its just coincidental that Kishan also keeps wickets. If you match him up with Dhawan, its obvious that Kishan has the same skills (opening left hand bat) while Kishan also gives the flexibility of basically batting anywhere in the order. And the keeping skills is a multi dimensional facet. Dhawan's ICC record is a factor, but it has been so for many years now and maybe the team finally decided to not give it much importance.

Would have liked to see Parkinson in England's squad given the WC will be played in the UAE. Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone do not inspire much confidence with the ball to me

It's not that surprising, although I thought he might get in with Archer and Stokes being unavailable. However, we played in India with only Rashid. I think it's a case that England back the seam bowlers to be more effective than the spinners with have available. Moeen and Livingstone offer useful options for specific match ups.

Pardon me but what is the scene of Joe Root with LOs. Does he not play them anymore?

So, wait, Imran Tahir is available and fit and performing, but he hasn’t been picked? :facepalm

I don't think that they need him either. Maharaj, Linde and Fortuin are pretty good future prospects. Shamsi is an established spinner already while Maharaj is doing well in the longer format. I feel it is a good move since they are looking towards the future.

Just look at the present, there’s a WT20 in Asia and Tahir is your best spinner. You focus on the future after world events, not before them.
