Pitches like in UAE, teams require off-spinners and ashwin is the best choice. Most of the teams don't have an off spinner so that gives India some edge.

I was pretty unhappy with the squad when i first looked at it but now think it's a decent squad tbh.
Think the only reason Ashwin is there is because Sundar is injured and they want a finger spinner in the squad which kinda makes sense since all our bowlers apart from him turn the ball away from the right hander
Like Kishan in the team. He is a backup opener, middle order bat and a backup keeper. Pretty versatile player to have on the bench
Rahul Chahar is a good addition too, he's looked good in recent times
But I have some issues too -
Like if Axar is only there as a replacement for Jadeja I think he could have been part of the reserves and could be included in the squad if Jadeja did get injured. Someone like Thakur could have been valuable to have in the 15.
And surely Chahal brings more to the table than Varun Chakravarthy? We have enough spinners to cover for Chahal if he stays out of form, but as we have seen many times the value an in form Chahal brings is massive. Just cant see VC being as influential as Chahal
Apart from all this though, this is a solid squad imo. The Indian team has been remarkably successful in recent times and I have more hope than I normally do in ICC events. Let's hope for the best!

5 spinners in UAE is a luxury... And 3 seamers is a "seamer short". Definitely didn't need both Rahul Chahar and Varun in the 15 man squad. One of them could've made way for Deepak Chahar to be in the 15 man squad. I dont think Deepak or Shardul can enter the team for injuries. I believe the reserves are for COVID-19 reasons only, am I right?
Good decision about Ishan being preferred for Dhawan. I predicted it because Ishan can do all that Dhawan can do (open batting; left hander; hard hitter) and can also keep wickets and probably a more livelier fielder. With SKY in the squad, I did feel Iyer was not needed. Sundar's unavailability made them select Ashwin. I am frankly surprised that Ashwin got the nod as I did not think Virat would want a player with average fitness in T20's, but they desperately needed an offie. Lucky Ashwin!
Finally...... MSD as the mentor for the team is such a stunner! Where did that come from? WOW!! Did they really choose him for superstitious reasons, or they really think having him would help the team play better? MSD has had his fair share of misses in T20 trophies too (though the halo around his captaincy was cemented with the 2007 T20 WC and 2011 WC wins, and that halo has refused to go away forever). Also I think he constant talk about how Kuldeep and Chahal faded away post Dhoni retirement, has possibly reached the team's ears and has made an impact. They think having Dhoni might help in winning the trophy. As a fan, I am incredibly excited to see him back in the blues, helping the team in whatever manner he can. I know the fan wars are going to get insane with memes already about "win trophy and Dhoni gets credit; lose it and Virat gets blame" thing. Cant help it, but Virat knew what he was getting into. He is the strongest person in Indian cricket right now and could've easily said "we can win this without Mahi Bhai".
