It's odd seeing this India side compared with the one that came to England to play the test series. They were full of energy, aggression and fight. This one looks nothing like that, yet it's virtually the same players (maybe that's the problem).
After the series earlier this year I thought India were the one team that might stop England and even after that first defeat against Pakistan I thought 'Oh no we might get India in the semi final'. Now they look as good as out, barring New Zealand falling victim to a pretty big upset.
Maybe it's bubble fatigue, I think that's a fair excuse - but not one I'm sure they'd make. Perhaps it's the fact that Kohli is due to step down and the team are just going through the motions.
I don't think losing to Pakistan and New Zealand is a bad thing but the manner of defeats is surprising as far as I'm concerned. It does feel a little similar to the 2019 WC campaign where you feel that whoever picks the squad has made mistakes and they are banking on the big names (like Australia) to do the job. I think one reason England have been so good since 2015 is there is an approach that has reverberated through the domestic game which means there's a huge supply of players who can step in and perform at the top level.
