2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup - Australia

I've been impressed with the pluck of the Irish lower order. Nobody's looked too far out of place.

Tucker in particular has been outstanding. Only made one mistake so far against a great bowling line up.

How bad must your bowling be if you’re gifting a fifty to this version of Finch?
Depends which of the Irish you mean. Hand, Delany and Adair were awful, but McCarthy, Little and Dockrell were very impressive.

(Finch was 40 off 36 before he got some gifts from Adair and Delany)

Tucker is beginning to look like a decent player since he moved up to 3. Really feel like Ireland don't need to play so recklessly sometimes - although some of this bowling (Starc's over in particular) was very good.

Edit- Tucker is the Irish Kohli

Used to be proper shite once down the order but seems to have found a good home at three.

There’s something missing from the Aussie side this year compared to the last one. Complacency, lack of motivation, a skill decline or whatever it is, they just don’t seem to be the same side. Maybe if they do sneak into the knockouts we’ll see a different side.

Yep, looked like the second coming of Stuart Poynter. Completely different player at 3. Whatever the reason, for moving an underperforming player up the order, it's been a great decision.

It’s the third time they’ve managed to find success with this tactic, previous beneficiaries being McBrine and Dockrell. Can’t wait for the day they go full Bradman and reverse the batting order.

Honestly, I'm fairly impressed by Ireland. It looked like half the side was pulled from the streets, but the other half actually matched or bettered the Aussies. I loved watching Tucker bat - was by far the best bat on either team today, I'm fine with admitting Adair and Delany pumped up Finchy's score - and the lower order showed tenacity (I don't blame Campher or Dockrell for getting Starc firebombs either). AS for the bowling, Dockrell was good in keeping the runs down (we already knew this), while Little and McCarthy looked consistently threatening (and McCarthy, that fielding!) The improvement needs to be in top order shot selection and their medium pacers - if they had that they might have won today.

Happy with Aussie bowling, but our bats need to be a bit better. Getting in and then out (Stoin, Maxi, Marsh) was a problem. Hopefully the injuries to Finch, David and Stoin aren't bad ones (I doubt Stoin's is but I'm worried about the others).

Now to charge my devices for tomorrow

They batted Max Sorensen with me at the top when I played Ashes Cricket as Paul Stirling.

I loved the 5 off 37 in ODIs, it really helped the team...

His SR in the IPL over the same period has been equally crap too. If this was known to the team management already and they’ve been pushing for this new aggressive tactic why hasn’t he been dropped?

And because of him the other top order batters are always under immense pressure to score quickly and most of the times get out doing that.

In the IPL, there's only Shaw that has much higher strike rate. So, KLR is, arguably, the best option.

Rohit Sharma has a SR of somewhere in the region of 140 in the same phase when that is not his natural game at all. If one of the most senior players and skipper could change his game to better suit the side, what’s stopping a guy who used to play like that once from doing it other than pressure? I feel it is the latter with this bloke as he looked in pristine touch in the practice games. Can’t carry someone who freezes at the mere hint of pressure in a WC game.

He does look out of sorts and someone who cannot handle the pressure at all. And it isn't like he hasn't had his opportunities. We really should look for a complete overhaul post this WC as far as T20 side is concerned. People like Kishan, Shaw need to be in the side. Even Rohit Sharma should say goodbye to this format.

These are the overall numbers I assume. Rahul’s got the ability to turn a slow start into a good knock by the end like Rizwan. The main strength of his as shown by that average is that he doesn’t lose his wicket that easily in the IPL and that aspect of his is completely lost internationally in a pressure game because he is dismissed early or else departs before turning said slow starts into impactful ones. There’s also the factor of him not being a compatible player to the current Indian XI when there’s already Kohli who’s got the knack of showing up at the big moments and Rohit who’s the captain and has changed his game to play more effectively.

That graph is why the side still persists with him too, they know there is a Buttler/Warner esque talent in there that needs the right platform. However it seems increasingly likely that this platform isn’t a WC stage.
