I realistically thought only 3 teams could challenge India going into the tournament, one of them is last on the table, one just lost by 250 runs and Australia lost badly after having India 3/2. New Zealand are also a smokey, they can pull anything off at times... like losing to Pakistan after making 400.

I think the only team capable of beating them now is Australia, but god I hope we don't finish 4th...

Australia will beat both AFG and BAN. Both grounds are top batting surfaces with not much spin. Australia will end up No. 2 likely.

South Africa have a tricky game vs Afghans at Ahmedabad. If a spinning or slow burn pitch is given, AFG could wreck havoc there. But if Australia beat AFG, South Africa will be assured of No. 3 spot at least, which ensures them not having to face India in the semifinals.

It’s India vs New Zealand or India vs Pakistan for the semis. I think Pakistan will be the tougher opponent in these conditions and especially at Eden if Pakistan bat first. There could be decent support for Pakistan at Eden too. But I hope it’s India vs New Zealand

As much as I admire their faith in 'Quadrat ka Nizam' , it's time to be a tad realistic here. Here's an excerpt from Wisden that sheds light on the matter:

Pakistan needs to beat England by a considerable margin. This is, assuming that the Kiwis won't let Sri Lanka get the better of them.

If New Zealand make 300 and win by one run, or chase 300 off the last ball, their net run rate will be 0.353.
If scoring 300 themselves, Pakistan would need to beat England by 130 runs to take their net run rate above that mark. Or, if chasing 300, they would need to reach victory inside 29 overs.

The bigger New Zealand’s margin, the bigger Pakistan’s margin will need to be, and these roughly match each other.

There is a detailed table somewhere that I'd pull up shortly and post. But, by the looks of it, it seems an uphill task. While the World has written off Buttler &Co, care must be taken by Pakistan-English bowling has been good since that India game.

Pakistan dreams because there is a 90% chance New Zealand game will be a washout.

This would mean that any kind of a win for Pakistan would get them into semis. I thought England would give them a fight but I dont see this England giving any fight.

Pakistan to qualify, thrash India with Shaheen taking 5 for 50, play Africa in finals and take a revenge and win it.

The biggest threat for India now is a rain curtailed game with DLS coming into play in a knockout game, Anything can happen then. But in a full 50 over match in normal conditions I don’t see any other team beating us.

Don't think it can rain in either Mumbai or Kolkata. I have been proven wrong on this before, so can't say anything.

For Pakistan, yes, agree that Bangalore rains will play an important part in sealing their qualification.

Afghanistan's fairytale run continues. They no one seems to be giving them a chance against Aus and SA, it might be nice to see them challenge the notion or play freely.

As for Australia, do you guys think they might purposely drop the game vs Afghanistan to try and push their Tasman neighbours out? They have done it in the past in 1999, so ,can't say anything.

Loving this new side of Rohit. His "throw caution to the wind" approach (although it might be a bit unfair to call it that) is making the life of other batsmen so much easier - wouldn't be a stretch to say it's one of the reasons why India is dominating in the tournament. You add Bumrah's probing spells in the opening overs and it's trouble at both sides of the innings.

Hopefully the rains will keep away from the knockouts and the final. We desperately don’t want a 20 or 25 over per side game deciding the Champion regardless of the eventual winner.

He's doing what a certain opener did for England.

His form coming in was really worrisome but he shut up his doubters including me, real quiet.

The change in his playing style ever since Dhawan got injured in the 2019 WC and he had to step up as the senior opener has been nothing short of exemplary role transition.
