Williamson ruled out for the opener.

South Africa vs Afghanistan match called off due to rain

Very COVID-esque match with no crowds. Can hear the players in the dugout shouting "Shahbaash"

Williamson ruled out for the opener.

Was he even ruled fit for the first few games? From what I heard he was supposed to miss out on them if they were being optimistic.

NZ’s decision to carry two injured players in a squad of fifteen is very odd.
Raining here too?

It’s been raining heavily in Chennai nearly every alternate day as well. I assume COVID pushed the WC to this window because otherwise it doesn’t make sense to play during what will be monsoon for many parts of the country.

@Aravind. have a look at this! :lol

Williamson ruled out for the opener.

Wait, why is he batting now then? :spy

EDIT - seems like his fielding is the worry alongside handling the high intensity of a real match. His recovery has already been really quick if not handled in a risky manner so this seems a pragmatic decision to make.

Many parts? Ehh? October is usually known for the October heat that sets in prior to the cooler months of November and December.

Having stayed in 4 of the host cities, I can safely say that Mumbai, Pune Hyderabad, Lucknow and Bangalore aren't affected by monsoon at this time. From friends in Delhi and Calcutta I know that the monsoon is over.

If you are considering Chennai =many parts, then perhaps your assumption might be correct, as I've never stayed there. But then again,to call it as 'monsoon for many parts of the country' seems a tad far-fetched.

I do have good reason to consider it though. ;)
