Lot of similarities with the 1996 CWC.

Starting with the 1st game at Motera(Ahmedabad) Eng V NZ.

One semi was at Eden, the other at a stadium named after a BCCI administrator (IS Bindra,Mohali).

2023- Eden and Mumbai(Wankhede)

The final was held in a stadium named after a world leader. (Gadaffi)
2023- Ahmedabad (Modi)

Similarities continue- hope India's fortunes don't follow a similar path as it did then.

Cause if India were to play their semi at the Eden(will happen if and only if Ind v Pak happens) and things turn ugly, this time the Kolkata crowd will probably burn the city down.

England, New Zealand, South Africa and Bangladesh for me.

India won't make it to the Final 4.

That’s a bold prediction if I ever saw one given Maharaj and Williamson are racing against time to be fit for the WC with Macewell out while Bangladesh are… Bangladesh when it comes to pressure situations. Certainly one I’d like to see happen with India in for England.

I’d say Australia, India, England should be locks for the top three as I don’t think India are going to miss out in their home conditions and I believe Australia will find a way to succeed with Zampa. Can’t rule out England coming in clutch at the right time, they seem to have figured out that aspect out.

Fourth spot is the interesting one, New Zealand look really wonky with multiple issues like figuring out their pace attack composition, the Macewell shaped hole and what to really do with Allen, Young and Nicholls. Pakistan have got a good core but there seems to be that extra spark or X-factor missing (then again it’s Pakistan, I’m sure they’ll find someone out of nowhere or in the existing squad to suddenly fulfil that role). South Africa seem most stable with a great top six, proper fiery pace and someone adequate enough to handle sixth bowler duties but they’ve got the opposite of the problem they had in 2015 with bowling all-rounders/bowlers not being good enough with the bat to fill that spot. They could solve that issue and make their spin attack more potent by bringing in Linde but he seems to be frozen out given he wasn’t even picked for the A team tour of Sri Lanka.

I’m coming around to your idea of Bangladesh being that fourth team if they get a proper start or middle run of momentum going. You aren’t going to qualify for the semis by just causing one upset or even two which is what they’ve done in the past so they’d have to demonstrate some new tricks to get up there. They do have the tools for it with some flashy additions in recent times but as always with their lot it’s a question of mentality.

If I really had to pick one I’d go with Pakistan who will finish third in the group and end up in the final.

Think England might miss out on the top 4, their bowling doesnt inspire too much confidence as there arent as many in form players as there were in 2019
My top 4 would be Australia, South Africa, Pakistan and India

They’re relying heavily on Rashid maintaining his form. I don’t think they have a good replacement lined up for a primary spinner if he goes off boil or gets injured. Between Livo, Mo and Root I think they can eke out enough overs for secondary spin support but it won’t be pretty.

It’s unlikely they’ll drop Curran and Wood if fit will probably play. That leaves one extra pacer slot remaining. In an ideal world you’d want Archer in there who gives batting depth and a world class bowling option if fully fit. The other alternatives are Woakes/Willey depending on the angle of swing bowling you’d prefer and for the batdeep factor or Mahmood if they want to try and bring an Archer like X-factor at the expense of batting depth.

IND vs AUS, Oct 8, Chennai
IND vs AFG, Oct 11, Delhi
IND vs PAK, Oct 15, Ahmedabad
IND vs BAN, Oct 19, Pune
IND vs NZ, Oct 22, Dharamsala
IND vs ENG, Oct 29, Lucknow
IND vs Qualifier, Nov 2, Mumbai
IND vs SA, Nov 5, Kolkata
IND vs Qualifier, Nov 11, Bengaluru
The matches against the two strongest opponents, Australia and England, are at very favourable venues with slow pitches.

My top 4 are Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and England with England winning it. Bookmark this!
Maybe we need a contest (or something for the sportsbook). Predict the top 4, get some vCash if you get it right, get double if you get it in 1,2,3,4 order.
