:aus: :bwl: Glenn McGrath

563 wickets @ 21.64 (29 5WI, best 8/24) in 124 Test matches

This was an easy pick here: one of the handful of greatest-ever Test seam bowlers by VARP, and one who particularly feasted on the remains of English batting line-ups. 157 Ashes wickets at 20.92 apiece. He came along a little bit after Gower's retirement, but I think he makes it by only one more degree of separation from the left-hander so this should be all good.

Mike Procter is my pick. Would have played against Gower in county championship matches and also by degree of separation.

Gary Sobers comes into my team as he did play with a degree of separation with Gower.

:nzf: :ar: Richard Hadlee

3,124 runs @ 27.16 (2 centuries, best 151*) and 431 wickets @ 22.29 (36 5WI, best 9/52) in 86 Test matches

With both Imran Khan and Mike Procter gone, I had to snap up the third member of this era's trio of all-rounders capable of both opening the bowling alongside McGrath and of scoring vital runs in the lower middle order. Hadlee will be pencilled in at number eight for now, but might move up to seven if it helps us accommodate another bowler when the time comes.
