5th Test: England vs Australia at the Brit Oval

Bell looking like he's adopting a more leg-stump stance, rather than middle-and-leg. I like that as he's always up for the LBW appeal with his horrid technique, he gets his bat and pad mixed up against the quicker bowler. With him standing on leg, he has more of a chance of not being out LBW, and he's got a good enough straight/cover drive to push away any balls on the stumps.

Why is it that Strauss is the only England batsmen who can actually, well, do his job?

C'mon Trott, do a Strauss, and don't get run out before hitting a century :)

Strauss certainly not having the problems that Bell is having. That first four by Strauss it did seem Johnson got it to move a bit.

And Siddle is in a bit of pain, hope hes alright else we got to depend on Watson's bowling.

aussie1st added 1 Minutes and 17 Seconds later...

Hes also alot more upright as the commentators have pointed out which is why hes struggling with the short ball.

He hasn't got a horrid technique, far from it in fact. He's just let 1 technical flaw get into his game, and trying to correct that has had an effect on another part of his game. Moving his front foot across his body is his only real technical flaw. He's normally far better against the short ball than this, and trying to correct that initial technical flaw is what's caused this apparent struggle against the short ball. He's technically as good as anyone in this England line-up, it's his mental strength that remains his main issue.

I'd rather he struggled against the short ball than the straight ball tbf

Got more room for error.

And, yes Dan, Bell has a horrid technique. Anyone who lets the ball hit his pads as regularly as Bell does, hasn't got a solid technique.

I just want to say that Will Luke is the best cricinfo commentator ever. His work today was brilliant.

He doesn't. Phillip Hughes has a horrid technique, Bell has a very solid technique but with 1 technical flaw. Bell's strong all round the ground, he's solid in defence, good against spin and looks good at the crease. He's just allowed 1 technical issue to creep into his game, but that doesn't make his technique horrid.

Are you in love with Ian Bell? Or do you permanently have rose-tinted glasses on 24/7?

Ian Bell is such a LBW candidate its actually unfunny.

Just watching him come forward to defend makes me cringe, if the ball does anything off the seam, inwards, he's out every time.
