9th Match: Australia v India (Group A)

That's a horrible line up. Your tail is way too long. I would call Kumar more of a bowling all rounder, and he doesn't have the temperament to play a long innings if a couple of wickets fall quickly. Pathan and Nayar can't be trusted upon to score runs consistently. So that really leaves only four batsman that can be relied on. You also have no Raina? He brings a lot to the table. Good batman, and can be an asset in the Batting Powerplay. His part time spin option adds depth into the attack. He gets through his overs quickly and isn't a bad option to have. His fielding is also outstanding and he alone saves about 20 runs a match. All these small things tend to go unnoticed but they count for a lot.

Also Kohli is a good batsman. He needs to come on at number three and he should be given the anchor role. He won't hit the ball out of the ground, but he has a good cricketing mind, and can rotate the strike on a consistent basis. He's a future star. The shot he played against Afridi wasn't needed, but it wasn't exactly a bad shot either. He's young and so he will learn.

I do like kohli, He's a very very good player, but i think Nayar should be given a chance.

India missed a lot of and from the key bowlers in the last match. And we don't even have 5 genuine bowlers in the side. Having Praveen kumar, ok, let's forget his batting for a while, but he's done well against australia in the CB Series and he can give india a big advantage with his swing bowling, and he has a proper sense of putting his variations at the correct times and isn't too easy to get away with. Indian bowlers conceded innumerable runs loosely against Pakistan. But praveen can choke the batsmen.

Yusuf Pathan? Well, He can open up with Gambhir or come down the order as he usually does. It's a feeling that you can never really rely upon him. But look at the order he comes in, and the time in the match. He can really get n any bowlers if he settles in, and he takes up 5-10 deliveries to adjust himself and he doesn't have any turn backs. The IPL in SA this year is a boost, and you've seen him perform against the better bowlers.

You can take off Sachin and Dravid, they're most probably to score. But sachin is injured as the reports say i think, but still, you have Dravid on the other hand and he takes all the time in the world to put india in a safer place with good scores.

You've dhoni, who's probably too, you can rely on. But it's a good thing to put Nayar above him and ask him to play his natural game if he gets a chance to play in the game. You basically need Dhoni to stay there till the end of the Innings.

Then you've the fear that If India might lose up all the batsmen, there aren't really batsmen who can sustain the bowling attacks for longer times. There aren't, really. Harbhajan can slog and can stay out there but his temperment is a doubt, he can sometimes stand there for long and sometimes goes too early. He's unexpectable. Then you have praveen kumar, let me remind you that despite his bad ODI batting record, he's played 11 innings in 24 matches. That too, at a stage where India were out of overs or it was an all-out stage. He can bat for you, and is an opener in Domestic Cricket.

Till there, you have the batting line-up, if not a experiment chance for Nayar, then you automatically have Raina. No need to talk about him, he's easily one of the best players in the squad and he's neck-to-neck with dravid for the No. 3 position.

But all India needs is Bowling at this stage, not batting. India lost the match against Pakistan because of the excess of runs they've given away, and some few unlucky run-outs to well settled batsmen did the trick but it was bowling, not batting that India lacked at. They were uncapable of controlling the aggression of Pakistani Bowlers in the Last 15 overs or so.

So the revised squad, excluding the experiments, would be:

Gautham Gambhir (bat)
Sachin Tendulkar (bat)
Rahul Dravid (bat)
Suresh Raina(bat)
MS Dhoni*+ (bat)(wk)(cp)
Yusuf Pathan (all)
Praveen Kumar (all)
Harbhajan Singh (bowl)
Amit Mishra (bowl)
Ishant Sharma (bowl)
Ashish Nehra (bowl)

Till dhoni from Gambhir, you have reliable 6 batsmen, and an odd advantage from the rest of the players to bat on.

But the power is bowling, You have Nehra, who's in tremendous form, Ishant Sharma, The variator Praveen Kumar, and the Spin duo, Harbhajan And Amit Mishra. You can count on any of these 5 to do well for the team. You can bring on the part-timers or the support bowlers to do their bit.

Unless you see them do their bit, you can't always put the same word.

^^^^ I agree with everything you said except one thing. I would have Nayar instead of Praveen. And Nayar should bat above Raina, I just feel that at 4 Raina is coming in too early. This way out batting has bit of depth and the bowling inst compromised as much since Nayar can bowl too.

Whatever I feared became the reality in our previous match. Our bowlers were smacked like anything, RP Singh bowled like a mong (although I'll admit that it was more our spinners than our pacers who let us down), and our middle order collapsed. I don't know what will happen today. My heart says India, but judging the two teams by their strengths and weaknesses, the Aussies really look to be a stronger side, and the favs of today.

India have to drop RP Singh, the guy's just not good enough for international cricket. Armit Mishra better play today, he'll cause Australia some problems.

Stay rest assured. RP Sh!t will be playing today. After all, she's the girlfriend of our skipper who some months back threatened to resign over RP's exclusion from the side. :sarcasm I admire and like MSD's style of leading the side, but I really don't get why he's so fond of this one player.

MSD Owned. :laugh

Allright i m saying this again, have Nayar :upray

Also Dhoni said he'll be playing with 5 bowlers!

Australia don't play spin well in the middle overs. India have Harbhajan Singh and Amit Mishra in the squad. Surely anyone can see that Mishra would be a FAR better option than RP Singh? I'll be mega surprised if he doesn't play. Have to say though, India don't look anywhere near as strong with Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan. 3 massive losses right there.

Good to see they've given Mishra a game against Australia, he'll add alot more to this team then RP Singh would have.
