Abhishek's Passion To Achieve His Dream

A specialist opening batsman and a part-time off break bowler, I, Abhishek Sharma play for Mumbai, West Zone and MCA President's XI in the FC matches and for the Pune Warriors India in the IPL. Below is a brief summary on my cricket career so far.

First Class Cricket

I made my FC debut on September 3, 2007 against Rajasthan in Mumbai. The FC debut match wasn't a bad one for me as I scored 71 in the first inning and 29 in the other, scoring exactly 100 runs in the match. Later I went on to play FC cricket for Mumbai and still represent the side.

My FC statistics are,

Batting:

For The Nation

In 2008 I was selected in India's U-19 squad for 5 ODs against South Africa U-19s in South Africa. I just warmed up the benches in the series and returned to India without even playing a single match. Was utterly disappointed.

The IPL

(The story assumes that IPL had begun from 2007 and not 2008)

The Mumbai Indians had picked me up for the 2009 season but unfortunately I didn't get to play any matches there as well. Later, in 2010, after some changes done in the catchment area selections for the IPL teams, Pune Warriors India picked me up. It felt great to be selected for a team in the IPL where I had hopes of making it into the playing XI. Even greater was to meet players like Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh. My IPL career so far has been ordinary. I have played just two matches for PWI, replacing Jesse Ryder on both occassions on account of his injuries. My debut IPL match was against Kolkata Knight Riders (April 29, 2010) and I scored just 12 in it.

My IPL stats are,

Batting:
Mat: 2
Inns: 2
NO: 0
Runs: 49
HS: 37 v Kochi Tuskers Kerala at Dr. DY Patil Sports Complex
Average: 24.5
BF: 40
SR: 122.5
30+: 1
100: 0
50: 0

--------------------

After playing FC cricket for quite a lot of time now, my name is finally being considered by the national team selection panel. I may be a part of India's tour to England which is scheduled to start in 3 weeks from now, but it will be pretty difficult for me to make it into the XI in the presence of Sehwag and Gambhir.

He would obviously put Gambhir injured, as he would love to play besides Virree.

You're 21, yet you play that much matches with that much talent. Unrealistic.

Doesn't matter who Abshishek replaces (sans Sehwag), he will be opening with Sehwag, I guess.

According to the storyline, I made my FC debut in 2007 (17 years old). And with the amount of FC matches that happen in India (Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, Irani Trophy, etc.), its not unrealistic to have played so many games.
And regarding the talent, well, the story is somewhat inspired from Ajinkya Rahane. ;)

Next News:
Viru Injured! Junior Viru- Abhishek Sharma to take his spot

Haha, interesting debate. I will be posting the next update soon. :)

I'm sorry but this is the way it's gonna be. I don't have much time now-a-days to spend time on the internet and so I won't be spending hours to post an update. Expect this to be a text-heavy story and the graphical part being some images from the internet. However, I'll certainly try to make the presentation a bit more attractive. :thumbs

India gears up for first tour post world cup victory, Gambhir out of test series due to knee injury

gautam_gambhir_wideweb__470x353,0.jpg

Team India gets ready to play their first international cricket series post the WC victory in April earlier this year. After a successful world cup campaign, the expectations are sky high in this much awaited series between England and India.

The lack of rest and constant cricket is certainly taking a toll on the players. Star opener Gautam Gambhir is ruled out of the entire test series due to a knee injury he acquired during IPL. Gambhir, skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL suffered the injury in the league match against Mumbai Indians and didn't opt out of the qualifier, which made his injury even more worse. Officials say that he will play the ODIs, but it completely depends on the pace at which Gambhir recovers. "Gambhir has been asked to visit the NCA after the 3rd test and undergo a fitness test. If he is declared fit, then he will certainly play the ODIs", said Krishnamachari Srikkanth.

He added, "Abhishek Sharma has been chosen to be a part of the team. He will probably open with Sehwag in the test matches. And Parthiv Patel is the reserve wicket-keeper."

Abhishek Sharma, 21, a young opening batsman from Mumbai has shown immense talent in the FC matches he has played so far. His selection is justified when we consider his domestic performance.

India: MS Dhoni (c), Virender Sehwag (vc), Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Abhishek Sharma, Parthiv Patel, Harbhajan Singh, Amit Mishra, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar, S Sreesanth and Munaf Patel.

-------------

So finally I am named in India's squad. It's a great moment for me, I've been waiting for this since the last 3-4 years. It's a big challenge for me to make my debut in England, where the pitches are fast and bouncy, completely opposite to the ones in India. I realize that this an opportunity of a lifetime and I need to make it count. Once Gambhir is fit, it will be difficult for me to be back if I fail, and with the likes of Mukund and Vijay also in contention, the competition is even more tougher.

Added to that, it will be a great honor for me to bat with my idol, Virender Sehwag. A feeling very similar to the one Sehwag felt while batting alongside Sachin Tendulkar on his test debut. Just like Sehwag made his debut count by scoring a ton, I hope even I do well.

I said that, didn't I?

Are the selectors fools to select an unknown untested player for an important series? They could've gone for Rahane, Mukund, Vijay, Karthick.

The selectors are rotting piece of meat in this story.

If Yudi Oops, Abhishek didn't find a place in the side, then the need of this story itself gets over.

He could play domestic and then eventually get called up. That would've been more realistic IMO. BTW good write-up so far.
@ Yudi, are you using a game for this story?

Yes, I agree. That would have been better. Selectors are portrayed as dumpsters here. Why would you give a chance to a guy averaging 50 odd when we have whole lot of tested guys to choose from? Also, in new guys Rahane (averaging around 67) and Pujara can be lot better options.

One second! It is a story- it is his wish, however he wants, he can build the story.

Read the story completely before you comment something on it- yeah, Abhishek Sharma is better than all old Rahanes, according to his cricinfo profile!

@Farhans: it is his story line, there is no need to restrict him just to stick with the original schedule, which India is following:).

@Abhishek: No way! It'll be way tooo difficult for you, to handle Sehwag at other end:p.
