We have discovered that improving the fielding abilities of your players reduces run outs, bur how about trying to fix the Test Match pacing.

They go slow at the start, then about 2 down they start slogging. but when they hit 6 down and Broad comes out the batsman down the other end slows back down. Is this because they are 6 down or because a lower skilled batsman has come to the crease?

I want to know whether anyone has the time to test whether
-lowering AI batting stats
-raising AI batting stats
-lowering your bowing stats
-raising your bowing stats
-lowering your bowing speeds
-raising your bowing speeds

fixes the pacing issue

If a batsman is fearless they will smash the ball, so if the batsman is fearless bowl half volleys wide out side offstump. So it is nearly wide and the marker is dark green. you don't even have to execute it well either. The bastman will play a back foot shot and miss the ball. The more they miss it the worst their confidence gets and after about 30 balls they are down to timid and should start playing realistically.

I haven't tried if reducing them to just hesitant worked, i just went all the way to timid, but hesitant may work too.

i dont think we can mate, if we play with players skills alot it will effact gameply and we'l might get AI trying to draw ODI's. best think is to get a patch. i am sure our pc boys including colin is must be on it

You've said that god knows how many times :p

I'm not working on AI because editing skills is something everyone can do. My skills are better spent finishing off this editor.

I've been doing some testing regarding ai. I posted some feedback in the editor thread, i hope to do more soon.

Ok upon further testing timing will also need to be reduced. I put Ponting on judgement 100, placement 0 and timing 100. Almost every ball he hit for 6. Swann felt his wrath, even more than normal Lol.

So, timing needs to be low, placement needs to be 0. With a low placement there is more chance of your boundary fielders saving runs, but still making it possible for the ai to score boundary's.

Gas, did it have an effect on the AI's run-outs? And when you say 'boundary fielders saving runs', do you mean that they actually dive for balls they could save if they really tried?

Made little affect run outs still occurred, maybe not as frequently though. I did not touch throw accuracy, maybe that's why.

No, i meant that when the ai hits a four ball, sometimes, if you have a fielder on the ropes, it sometimes goes close enough for him to stop it. Basically, in the long run the ai should hit less boundaries as their placement is not so good.

The_gas added 6 Minutes and 24 Seconds later...

I am now starting a new ashes series, again with the following values.

All aussie batsmen have 100 for judgement, this includes haddin. 0 for placement, and 50 for timing across the board. All aussie bowlers have 100 for accuracy, to improve line and lengths and hopefully no balls.

I'll report back. :spy

I never messed with the AI batsman, just my own. I may do some fiddling though after the Aussie innings in my current test. Watson and Ponting were scoring at a stupid rate.

Try setting all batsmen at 100 judgement, 0 placement and 50 timing.

Here's the results so far using this field.

Note i bowl on the other side to left handers, i bowl mainly at the stumps or just outside swinging it into the batsmen or selecting straight ball and just missing off stump. Hence the leg side protection.

I tried doing this yesterday, although I was a bit more generous with the placement rating. It it seemed to make a marked difference. Many shots that would have flown to the boundary were just being mistimed or going straight to the fielders.

Problems started for me around 35 overs in when they commenced playing lofted shots and I guess their confidence was so high that they stopped playing any defensive shots what-so-ever. I had them 112/4 with no run-outs. This became 170/5 within 5 overs. I'm wondering if confidence overrides the skill rating once it gets to a certain level ?

Scoring rate is pretty decent from your scorecards but I'm curious to see how things are going after 40 or 50 overs.

would this skill chaning work even if you are playing against a friend rather than AI? and Can i make those changes (same as yours) for Pakistan or anyother team for 20/20, ODI etc?

thanks
