Overall Pick #9: Dennis Amiss

Profile
It seems insane to be picking somebody who made his debut in the second-ever ODI way back in 1972, but Denis Amiss was not in any way an ordinary one-day player. Throughout his entire limited overs career for England (a five-year span, despite not playing all that many matches), the ICC rankings never put him any lower than third in the world, and he spends most of that time at number one despite playing through an era that contained Viv Richards, Clive Lloyd, the Chappell brothers, Glenn Turner, Zaheer Abbas and others who are considered to be among the best of any generation - not only their own. In that time, Amiss scored four centuries. Again, that doesn't sound like many but bear in mind that the entire rest of the world managed only twelve, and no other player had more than one against Test playing nations. Amiss was the clear stand-out batsman in the early years of ODI cricket, and someone often overlooked due to the era in which he played.

Jason Roy

Yet another South African born who established himself as a great player for England. Carrying wonderful performances for Surrey at his back over the years this swashbuckling opener made his debut for England against New Zealand at Edgbaston in 2015. Despite being a prolific run-scorer for Surrey in County Championships he made a pretty ordinary start to his career but very soon he grabbed the lime-light to be England's best ever opener in this format. He made his first ODI 100 in just his 6th game for England against Pakistan on a difficult Abu Dhabi track in 2015. He came to India for the WT20 in 2016 and scored 42 off just 16 deliveries where England made the history of chasing one of the biggest scores in a T20I format against the Proteas. This innings helped his confidence even in the ODI format. In 2016 when he returned at his home ground none other than the prestigious ground of The Oval where England were required to make the history of chasing the highest total at that ground which was 309. Roy made a wonderful 162 to see his side home by six wickets to spare and ensured that England chased the highest total (currently the 2nd highest) successfully at The Oval quite comfortably. Since then he never looked back. He is meant to be the greatest ODI opener for England because of the way he changed the traditional old style of playing for England in the limited overs format and has the joint 3rd highest number of centuries along side Kevin Pietersen and Jos Buttler. He also holds the record of scoring the highest individual score for England and highest individual score against Australia in Australia. His record currently stands at :-

ODIs
Matches - 80
Runs - 3153
Average - 42.04
Strike rate - 107.06
100s/50s - 9/15
Highest score - 180 v/s Australia at MCG, 2018

ListA
Matches - 176
Runs - 6213
Average - 38.83
Strike rate - 107.15
100s/50s - 16/31
Highest score- 180 v/s Australia at MCG, 2018

This prolific run-scorer definitely stands in my all-time ODI XI for England

Well that's all three of the obvious choices for keeper gone. Also a bit surprised that it took so long for someone to claim Jason Roy, but he's an excellent pick

@Sinister One - you're up (and should really have already been tagged)

Overall Pick #15: Eoin Morgan

I hadn't budgeted for being able to pick Eoin Morgan, largely because I assumed that England's greatest-ever One-Day International captain would be long gone by the time I had picked Flintoff and Amiss. With someone of this quality still available at this stage of the draft, I have shelved my planned third-rounder to pick somebody far more important to the side. Though born and raised in the Emerald Isle, Morgan never made any secret of his ambition to move to England and play Test cricket. Though he managed to do exactly that, it is in the white-ball format that he has made his greatest impact. Under his leadership, the way that England play the one-day game has changed beyond recognition and it is the ultimate credit to him that the rest of the world has followed suit. Morgan is also the master of the captain's innings: in the 65 wins England have so far managed under his auspices, he has accrued 2,781 runs at an average of 54.52 and a strike rate of 102.96 with six centuries and no fewer than 21 other scores of fifty or more. Even in tougher times, Morgan's temperament, man-management and loyalty draw universal respect.

Sorry for holding up. Just realized I need to make a pick. I know I have one writeup pending, I will write this one later too.

England's highest wicket taker in ODIs, James Anderson is my pick. Surprised he is still available.

I’m still surprised that this England legend that I previously mentioned is available even now. :p

Very very tough...

So as I understand it, I have 2 goes now? I've 4 players in my mind, trying to decide who is less likely to be picked by others and so risk holding back...

So I'm going with:

1) Marcus Trescothick - 4,335 runs at 37.37 with a strike rate over 85, and 12 hundreds. Tres would get you off to a flyer, very good hands at slip and was even known to throw down an over or two.

2) Alex Hales - persona non grata at the moment, thanks to his pussy behaviour in the Stokes incident and his penchant for the type of colombian powder you don't brew in a french press, but 2,527 runs at 37.79 with a strike rate of 95.72 and 6 hundreds including a high score of 171 gets him into my team. With him and Botham in the team, there's always a connect.

So that makes my team:
1)Tres
2)Botham
3)Hales
4)
5)
6)
7)
8)Plunkett
9)
10)
11)

@CerealKiller - over to you
