Pakistan All-Time Test XI Draft

122250.2.jpg

:pak: :bat: Wazir Mohammad

Test stats - 801 runs @ 27.62 (2 centuries, best 189) in 20 matches
First-class stats - 4,930 runs @ 40.40 (11 centuries, best 189) in 105 matches

Wazir Mohammad probably shouldn't be anywhere near this draft, let alone a number three batsman. His Test batting average was under 30, and was only the fourth-best batsman to come out of his mother's womb. But he was - and this is crucial - the brother of my team's recently reinstated captain, and nothing could be more Pakistan cricket than a healthy dollop of nepotism when it comes to team selection. In he goes.

1. :pak: :wkb: Taslim Arif
2. :pak: :bat: Taufeeq Umar
3. :pak: :bat: Wazir Mohammad
4. :pak: :bat: Babar Azam
5. :pak: :ar: Mushtaq Mohammad :c:
6. :pak: :ar: Shahid Afridi
7. :pak: :wkb: Aamer Malik
8. :pak: :bwl: Fazal Mahmood
9. :pak: :bwl: Khan Mohammad
10. :pak: :bwl: Pervez Sajjad
11. :pak: :bwl: Mohammad Zahid

@Yash.
He'll cost you more runs due to dropped catches than the ones he'll make with the bat. Was an absolutely awful fielder. And according to Hanif, a fifth brother who only made it as far as being 12th man for Pakistan, Raees Mohammad, was more talented than him. So probably fifth most talented batsman to come out of his mother’s womb :p
I knew the quality would be diluted in the later stages of the draft, due to the large number of participants, but it’s really fun to look for the right players, among the more obscure ones, to plug the remaining holes in the team.

This is why I was pushing for a bigger draft. I'm glad we are able to see players like Wazir who would probably never be picked for any other team be selected

Took me a while to realise this wasn’t just the name of a very bad player coupled with an admission you were scraping the bottom of the barrel
Well, i am admittedly a very bad player, so you’re not totally wrong :p

@AsadRM missed his time so i will complete my team.

My final pick will be the hero from last night, Faheem Ashraf

He will be used as a young prospect on my team to develop for the future

His bio from cricinfo

"Faheem Ashraf began his career with aspirations of fast bowling, but it is as a lower-order left-handed batsman - the good old-fashioned pinch hitter - that he has introduced himself in international cricket. He blazed away to an unbeaten 64 off 30 balls against a Bangladesh side playing its best cricket in 2016-17 to upstage them in a warm-up match just before the 2017 Champions Trophy. That innings wasn't a one-off for Ashraf, who has built a reputation for explosive hitting while batting with the tail; it especially impressed his mentor Tauseef Ahmed, who fast-tracked him to the international side.

Ashraf belongs to that breed of cricketers that South Asian teams look for: the seam-bowling allrounder. He has enjoyed success with the ball in both first-class, where he averages 26.93 and has five five-wicket hauls, and List A cricket, where he averages 24.91. What makes Ashraf's emergence particularly timely is that he seems to embody the two things Pakistan need most in limited-overs cricket - a power hitter and an allrounder. Only time will tell if Ashraf is just another flash in an already scorched Pakistani pan, but just the possibility that he may not be makes him a cricketer worth watching out for."

ahmedleo414's playing XI:

  1. :pak: :bat: Saeed Anwar
  2. :pak: :ar: Majid Khan
  3. :pak: :bat: Ijaz Ahmed
  4. :pak: :bat: Younis Ahmed
  5. :pak: :bat: Wallis Mathias
  6. :pak: :ar: Abdul Razzaq
  7. :pak: :wk: Wasim Bari
  8. :pak: :ar: Fahim Ashraf
  9. :pak: :bwl: Mushtaq Ahmed
  10. :pak: :bwl: Mohammad Sami
  11. :pak: :bwl: Waqar Younis :c:

And that completes my team.

Overall I am quite happy with how my team turned out.

For Pace I have Waqar, Razzaq and Ashraf.

For Express pace I have Sami, who will be used sporadically just to shake things up

For Spin I have Mushtaq and for a bit of change I have Majid Khan who can bowl spin or medium pace depending on what's required

I feel like I have a decent enough batting lineup to put up competitive scores with Anwar, Majid and Ijaz at the top. Younis and Mathias in the middle. Razzaq and Ashraf should hopefully play well enough to get us over the line.

@blockerdave to finish out his team
