yea... i am getting the game whether the review is good or not lol.

and most of the time the will have someone who doesnt like it review it, with ufc undisputed 2009 someone gave it like 7/10, i still play that game heaps. well i will when the patch gets released hate people quiting when i am about to knock them out lol

Cricket is videogaming’s forgotten sport. Along with rugby, developers and publishers seem at ease with pretending it doesn’t exist. The last one of any note was Brian Lara International Cricket 2007… and we’ll leave that there. So, as you’d expect, there was a mini wave of expectation when Codemasters announced that the sport was back on its radar. Unfortunately, we would’ve all been better off without it.

Ashes 2009 is so bland that there are cricket games from a decade ago that offer a greater amount of excitement. All aspects feel like a slog, failing to implement any of the fine intricacies the activity possesses. Bowling has been watered down to a mere ‘move target here’ mini-game, whereas batting asks nothing more than to bap every shot over the boundary. It’s the latter where things really fall apart.
It would seem that Transmission Games isn’t too aware of physics, as the most obscene shots can be made. Think that ball an inch away from your face can’t be smacked for six? Think again… It’s beyond infuriating, as whether you’re in control or trying to find a way to fight against it, there’s no real sense of competition. Matches soon descend into who can take advantage of a situation the most.
While Ashes 2009 doesn’t feel rushed, it does seem as if numerous corners were cut, souring the entire package. Character models are hilarious, animation is poor and the overall presentation just sums up the game as a whole: it’s really dull. Those simply desperate for a cricket title may squeeze something out of it, but even then disappointment is bound to eventually set in.

Final Verdict
A poor representation of the sport that will be completely ignored by everyone other than those who take a direct interest. Alas, even this group will feel a little underwhelmed. 4.7/10

Mmm pretty damning but then again not very sophisticated either. There is no mention as far as I can tell what the review is based on, demo or full version, easy or hard and doesn't really give detailed reasons for coming to the conclusions it does although it must be admitted that some of it is perfectly justified and will mean more bad press and turn off those who might be thinking about getting the game, more casual users I mean.

For me, that's rubbish - unless the full game is far worse than the demo, which, going by the guys here who have playtested the game - knowledgeable cricket fans - is highly unlikely. Try hitting everything for six in the demo and see where it gets you!

True but the problem is that whether it is true or objective or not it is more bad press and people will listen to stuff like this which is unfortunate because we are all wanting this game to succeed to guarentee future development.

Remember: magazines are not always right. I remember PC Gamer giving BLIC 2007 80%+!!!!! :rtfl

We'll have to do a Top Gear, like the episode where they went around Parliament Square with megaphones on their cars spouting all sorts of slogans, only we'll be saying:

'What should you do'?
'Buy Ashes 2009!'
'When should you do it?'

This guy sounds like he is not a big cricket fan to begin with. He sounds like a sports fan who is reviewing a cricket game. He is probably used to the quality of games like Fight Night 4 and FIFA so he is comparing them to those.

Pretty generalized comments for such a damning review.

Yeah he is probably wondering why you can't shoot or blow anything up or bludgeon the opposing team, what the hell, just bludgeon everybody; the crowd, the umpires, his teammates, blow it all up; now thats what I call cricket! (Time for a lie down me thinks)

if all is fixed in the final build then most probably 8 or may be 8.5/10 as the graphics and animations are still not near to any next-gen games.. I can't believe the people who made the faces actually got their work approved by the PMs..

I think he maybe got hold of BLIC 2007 by accident, because that's the game he was reviewing, not Ashes 2009.

I only trust the fellows at planetcricket for a game review. All game sites are either biased for some reason to some games or dont know anything about the game.
Even the demo wasn't that bad !
