Review Ashes Cricket 2009 Press Reviews

if all is fixed in the final build then most probably 8 or may be 8.5/10 as the graphics and animations are still not near to any next-gen games.. I can't believe the people who made the faces actually got their work approved by the PMs..

PMs? How do you mean?

Just found this new review giving the game 4.7/10.. He doesn't go in a huge detail but I guess thats what he thought..

The batsman?s Holding, the bowler?s Willy...
Cricket is videogaming?s forgotten sport. Along with rugby, developers and publishers seem at ease with pretending it doesn?t exist. The last one of any note was Brian Lara International Cricket 2007? and we?ll leave that there. So, as you?d expect, there was a mini wave of expectation when Codemasters announced that the sport was back on its radar. Unfortunately, we would?ve all been better off without it.

Ashes 2009 is so bland that there are cricket games from a decade ago that offer a greater amount of excitement. All aspects feel like a slog, failing to implement any of the fine intricacies the activity possesses. Bowling has been watered down to a mere ?move target here? mini-game, whereas batting asks nothing more than to bap every shot over the boundary. It?s the latter where things really fall apart.
It would seem that Transmission Games isn?t too aware of physics, as the most obscene shots can be made. Think that ball an inch away from your face can?t be smacked for six? Think again? It?s beyond infuriating, as whether you?re in control or trying to find a way to fight against it, there?s no real sense of competition. Matches soon descend into who can take advantage of a situation the most.
While Ashes 2009 doesn?t feel rushed, it does seem as if numerous corners were cut, souring the entire package. Character models are hilarious, animation is poor and the overall presentation just sums up the game as a whole: it?s really dull. Those simply desperate for a cricket title may squeeze something out of it, but even then disappointment is bound to eventually set in.

Final Verdict
A poor representation of the sport that will be completely ignored by everyone other than those who take a direct interest. Alas, even this group will feel a little underwhelmed. 4.7/10

What is this guy talking about... He thinks you can play every ball over the boundry....obviously he doesnt know anything about this game....people who have played demo would know what i am talking about.

BLIC07 is also fairly high up on Metacritic, remember that the things people on this forum look for in a Cricket game don't reflect the average gamer's view. It will be a good game if a storm of hate follows in every review written by the magazines and newspapers.

PM = Project Manager

OK, cheers.

Like I said, they must've put a BLIC 2007 disc in his Ashes 2009 box. That is the only explanation for such an idiotic review.

well i dont care about what others say about the game anymore. i was not so sure my self before i played the demo, and now i can safely say its going to be the best cricket game ever even with the bugs. (but i really hope they'l fix the runout bug) so more then a guy who thinks you can hit every ball for six, i think we know our game and codies have done well ,,,, finally !!!!!

Possibly one of the worst reviews I've ever read.

^I just checked up BLIC 07 at metacritic and . Are all the reviewers blind or mentally retarded to give such a game a rating of over seven. BLIC was below average. Thats why we should only believe reviews of PC reviewers :hpraise

Just a little off topic...but do you guys think EA sport will have another go at cricket tittle. If they do it would be good as pes vs fifa. More choices for us. :D

i just don't care about these damn reviews ........ this game is freaking awesome for me i'll buy it ! :D :banana2

The Nowgamer reviewer clearly doesn't know anything about cricket, or at least Test Cricket. And it certainly sounds like he wasn't playing the game on hard mode!

One glaringly obvious example of this: The title, where he's managed to get Michael Holding and Peter Willey the wrong way round. :D

Ha well its a review of sorts, if a paragraph and a couple lines constitutes a review these days!!:D

Obviously he's not a fan which is fair enough, but its not exactly the best written, in depth analysis of a game ever written.

At least the worst review is out the way first, I'm not really expecting this game to get 9's or anything but I expect something a little well more rounded in their break down.

But at the end of the day the reviews are meaningless to me these days, I've played the demo, I know what to expect, I'm getting it, I shall form my own opinion on the final product but having had more fun in the demo than BLIC2007 I think I shall be more than happy this time.

thank you mate, and with that you can very safely say on AUG 08 2009 we will be getting the worlds best ever cricket game by far. weldone codies i am getting rid of EA for good, but i still pray that AI game play will be far better as well ( il hate to see the game with best potancial end up trying to draw ODI's)
