But they are allowed to use same title name for series (Ashes Cricket)?

Can they at least use same file format they made it for previous titles? If yes, what's the point of building from scratch.

Sorry but I am so confused here.

Ashes is a brand name probably owned by ecb or crickat australia and therefore falls under the licencing agreement that 505 has with them. The code for the game is owned by Codies and thus theirs to do with as they wish...

Hmm..thanks for clearing that. So basically Codies gave their BLIC 2007 code to Trickstar and they updated the game using same body models and animations made by Codies earlier. That's right, na?

Not sure about that and what I have written is just my take on the situation, whether it is completely right would have to be verified but my experience from out of my business experiences would tell met that this is the way it works....

It does look reasonable though. There would be no reason why Trickstar would use same shot animations and player models from BLIC 2007 (they look ugly, sorry). They updated the game engine while building on previous release.

I am optimist though, because Trickstar would be making this game from scratch and they know how to get it right. They would be redoing gameplay without caring about limitations from previous code.

For this reason we can be very hopeful to get a whole new commentary as the commentary will be part of the whole copyright issue. That is at least one positive. Transmission will be forced to create a whole new commentary. Whether it really delivers something worthwhile will have to be seen......

While we are at it, if you don't bother to answer, I would like to know if Publisher pays for everything (for license, hiring commentators etc) while only developer job is to develop and create commentary scripts for commentators?

The publisher will be the ones putting up the money to develop the game. They will be investing the money, paying the wages and giving the briefing as to what they expect from the game. This is always the problem for developers as they may have different wishes than the publisher. In this case 505 seem to be really keen to make a genuine cricket game. Of course they are only investing with a view to get their investment back at the very least so there has to be a balance found between the genuine feel of cricket and entertainment. Hopefully they can find a good balance to satisfy all parties.

Thanks for that, really useful for me. Really excited for this game, actually more excited to mod this game! It's been ages since I last made a patch for a cricket game.

Having a look at the 505 website and portfolio they seem to have an interest in a number of authentic coaching and training type titles which is a good thing I think as it means they do have an interest in proper techniques etcetera

One worrying thing on their website is that their last bit of news dates back to more than a year ago.......

Ashes Cricket 2013 Graphics & Gameplay

I hope this game comes with graphics equal to Crysis 2 :cheers and Battlefield 3.
RIP Ashes Cricket 2009......Servers are down :( :(

Ashes Cricket 2009 was from scratch as well.

The commentary scripting isn't the exact same thing as commentary writing - they have to build a commentary engine that puts together the right words with the match situation. The exact wording the commentator uses is less important to developers than the structure of what they say.

Surely from scratch does not include the body models and animations made by Codemasters earlier. Why would they make exact same animations of that of Codies? I am pretty sure that there were still some stuffs updated rather created.

Chief has stated it's FROM SCRATCH. It's not hard to understand. They're starting with a fresh template, nothing from previous games... from the ground up. Re-using old stuff isn't part of their new plan, whether it's to do with copyright or other issues is irrelevant. Quit asking the same questions! It's not hard to comprehend. I highly doubt (knowing very little about games development) that there would be much they could "re-use" from a three year old game anyways. You look at how fast things change in the technology world for us, I imagine it's just as fast behind the scenes. What we should take from this is they're confident and BOLD enough to believe in their own ability to build this game from the ground up after learning a lot from previous titles, that's pretty impressive.

Glass half full opinion is this is a good thing, Game engines have come A LONG way in three years, look at games like Assassin's Creed which have evolved ridiculously quickly and take full use of the PS3 and 3D power of PC's to the absolute limit. Honestly, it's a good thing.

I'm sure they're smart enough folks to take the best of what they had with C09/IC10 and build it into a better, quicker, smarter games engine.
